WHITE TIGER by Jennifer Ashley

Shifters Unbound #8
Berkley Publishing Group, April 2016
Paperback
Obtained via:  publisher
ISBN:  9780425281352
Paranormal Romance
****

Jennifer Ashley’s WHITE TIGER is the eighth paranormal romance in her Shifters Unbound series filled with magical moments, shifty bears, tigers, wolves and some darn good pie, oh boy!

For two decades, the Guardian of the un-collared shifters living in secret, a rare white tiger shifter, Kendrick, has been protecting his group of shifters from being herded into shiftertowns and collared.  After they were recently discovered and were forced to separate and run, he is even more desperate to find a place where his people can live in peace and where he can raise his pups in safety.

Lonely waitress Addison Price looks forward to the visit the handsome and intriguing man pays her diner nightly for pie at closing time with his three sons unerringly as she prepares to close.  When he risks everything and reveals his true nature to her in order to protect her, Addison’s interest in him and his cubs turns to something more and she finds herself on the run with them.

Jennifer Ashley once again proves why she is among the top writers of paranormal romance with the latest offering in her Shifters Unbound series, WHITE TIGER, out for release in April.  Be sure to get your copy quickly; they are sure to sell fast.  As with the other stories in this series, it helps if you have read a few of these fast paced shifter stories, but it is by no means necessary to follow the storyline.  It only enriches it for the reader.

The characters in this book are well developed and unique in their own right.  It is easy for readers to see how panic could ensue if it were discovered that shifters really did walk among us and how a reasonable solution would be to catalog them and put them together in their own towns for their safety and the safety of others.  It is also easy to see how that could backfire for both sides, resulting in both lasting fear and empathy.

Jennifer Ashley has won the hearts of her fans yet again with her latest paranormal shifter romance, WHITE TIGER, a story of love and between two very different people with a love for …pie.

TIGER MAGIC by Jennifer Ashley

Shifter’s Unbound Book 5
Berkley Sensation, June 2013
Paperback
Obtained via:  publisher
ISBN 978-0-425-25121-7
Paranormal Romance

The fifth book in Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters Unbound series, TIGER MAGIC, is a paranormal romance with a bite.

When Carly Randal’s borrowed car dies on the side of the road, the extremely well built man that comes to her rescue is far more than meets the eye.  Tiger knows Carly is his mate as soon as he sees her.  Now he just has to convince her.

Tiger has spent most of his life caged in a laboratory where he was poked, prodded and tortured in the name of science.  Now, he is desperately trying to fit in with the other shifters in Shiftertown.  His character is easy to empathize with as he has been put through torture and just wants to fit in and learn of his origins.  But with no other tiger shifters to learn from, he must learn how to keep a low profile first and foremost.

Carly Randal thought she was set to marry the right man, right up until she finds him with his pants around his ankles with a strange woman wrapped around him on his kitchen counter.  And now, the hunky guy who rescued her earlier in the day is claiming she is his mate.  Carly is tempted to believe him.

Jennifer Ashley’s TIGER MAGIC reads very much like Lora Leigh’s Breed books.  Tiger has been bred in a laboratory and has been tortured in the name of science.  And like Leigh’s breeds, Tiger too immediately knows Carly is his intended mate the moment he first meets her.  Soldiers and those wanting to use Tiger for their own ends refuse to leave him alone.  This too is a common thread in Leigh’s breed books.  This reader thoroughly enjoys Leigh’s breed books, so it comes as little surprise that this reader also thoroughly enjoyed TIGER MAGIC.  Though not terribly original, the danger, the conflict, the chase scenes, and the heated love scenes with Tiger and Carly all lead to one fast-paced and exciting book.

His Grace, Duke Hart Mackenzie, eldest of the Mackenzie brothers, has not had the easiest life. Oh, it’s been filled with luxury and he never had to dirty his hands if it didn’t suit him. The difficulty, the turmoil and heart wrenching moments have all been emotional. From a childhood of not only being beaten by his father for his own supposed sins, Hart also took the punishments that would have been meted out to his brothers Cameron, Mac and Ian. It was Hart who rescued Ian from an asylum—and his planned murder by their father. Hart loved, and lost, the woman who would have been his perfect wife.

Lady Eleanor Ramsay knows her mind and more importantly, her heart. It was she who ended her engagement to Hart Mackenzie because she believed a woman who told her an unpalatable truth about the Duke. Now, years later, Eleanor does something that could cost Hart all, and especially his dream of becoming prime minister, she comes to London to help catch what could be a deadly blackmailer.

When Hart once again sees Eleanor he determines that this time he will not allow the woman he loves to walk away. But it isn’t Eleanor that may end their chance at finding love. Hart is a target and may not live long enough to walk his one love down the aisle.

I’ve been waiting a long time for Hart’s story in Jennifer Ashley’s Mackenzie series. She did not disappoint. Okay, it’s only been about a year, but still, if you are a fan of historical romance told by a fantastic author, if the next book isn’t sitting there on your shelf when you want it, it seems like a long time.

I have to admit I fell in love with the Mackenzie brothers with the first in the series, THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE. Ms. Ashley showed her own great compassion through Ian’s character with how his wife, Beth, as well as his brothers, treated him. It has been wonderful to see Ian break out of the shell someone with Asperger’s pull around them just to cope with the world as well and the devastation imposed by a brutal father. In THE DUKE’S PERFECT WIFE he comes truly into his own.

I enjoyed this story but there were times when I wondered why certain segments were included. They weren’t long, but seemed just out of place and not the Jennifer Ashley I love to read. The last chapters were just a bit too much narrative, telling what was going on with the characters rather than them living the experience. At first I was a bit bored with Hart’s personal journey to self-realization but as the story wound down I have to say it was well done. It gives the reader a moment to step back and re-evaluate Hart.

Each book in this series is a standalone and can be read out of order. I would, however, recommend reading them in order because each story builds on the one before—the characters develop more and more in each story with tantalizing lead-ins to the next in the series.

Ainsley Douglas is a respectable but poor widow in the employ of the queen. And the queen has sent her on an important mission. To retrieve potential damaging letters that are now in residence of one Lord Cameron Mackenzie, a man who Ainsley has had embarrassing encounters with in the past.

Cam cannot believe his eyes! That Douglas woman has once again broken into his bedchamber. He does not care why she is there all he knows is that for the last six years he has not been able to forget the woman who turned down his advances, claiming she wanted to stay true to her much older husband. Now that husband has passed leaving Ainsley available. Will he be able to convince her to become his latest paramour?

Although this is the third book in the Highland Pleasures series, it is the first book that I picked up not knowing. I actually had no idea that this is one of a four book series until I picked up the first book, THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE and came across some familiar characters. THE MANY SINS OF LORD CAMERON is a stand-alone book, and WOW! Does it stand tall! I thoroughly adored this book.

Those Mackenzie brothers are breathtaking leading men. Cameron has no desire to become seriously involved with a woman and is a scandalous womanizer. Yet women are more than willing to toss themselves into his embrace. That is why he just can’t understand why Ainsley is holding back, drat the woman. Is this a unique storyline? Not in the slightest. But what makes this book exciting is that Ainsley is not like most heroines. How many highborn ladies can pick a lock and sneak into a man’s bedroom not once but twice? You just gotta love this woman!

I applaud Ms. Ashley and her offering THE MANY SINS OF LORD CAMERON and cannot wait to get my hands on the other two books in the Highland Pleasures series. This is a fast paced page-turner that kept me intrigued and on the edge of my seat. Lovers of Regency Romance will not want to miss out on this one.

Ian Mackenzie is a madman. Everyone says so. After all, he spent a good deal of his youth in an asylum. But those close to Ian know a deeper side of the man. Maybe even a darker side.

Widow Beth Ackerley owes Lord Ian a debt of gratitude. He saved her from marriage to a man whose perverse pleasures would have certainly made the rest of her life miserable. Only to be seen with the worse of the scandalous Mackenzie brothers makes tongues wag and whisper. Luckily Beth finds she really does not care what others think. She just cannot stay away from THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE.

I read this book after book three in the series. Now I need to grab book two and four when it comes out. These Mackenzie brothers are HOT! Lord Ian is a most unusual leading man for a historical romance. He is rich and handsome, yes. He is also is unique and peculiar, but not in a bad way. I fell for his atypical characteristics as well as sympathized with his tragic past.

This book enthralled me from the first page and kept my attention throughout. I found myself so engrossed. Author Jennifer Ashley even through me a curve when she …well, I don’t want to give the ending away, but let’s just say she blurred the lines between good and evil a wee bit. Kudos to Ms Ashley and her gifted story telling. I am a huge historical romance fan, especially regency romances and this book did not disappoint. It is one of the best that I have read in a long time, along with book three in the series, THE MANY SINS OF LORD CAMERON. Ms Ashley is an author I will definitely read again.

Mrs Ackerly, a widow, Beth to her friends, is engaged to Sir Lyndon Mather of St. Aubrey’s in Suffolk. When Lyndon boasts about his friendships with Lords and Duke’s, she begins to wonder. When he introduces her to Lord Ian at the opera, Beth’s surprised to find him acting and speaking quite normally. After Lyndon introduces them, he moves to the other side of the box to watch the popular soprano. Ian pushes a note inside the wrist of the glove before leaving, when she opens it while alone she’s shocked by the contents.

Discovering what was in the note is true, she now wonders if Ian is a madman and should have been left in the asylum, or is she safe while being protected by him.

This tale was filled with surprises and kept me turning pages. It’s totally different to any other historical I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot. Lyndon is the kind of man who has two faces, the good and the bad. Suddenly Beth becomes a woman with a mission, as she learns more about Ian, who makes an interesting hero. There are many characters in this book, some who would love to see the hero chained and left to rot. Considering all the Mackenzie brothers are considered to be mad, so maybe is Beth mad as she seems to get on well with them.

The story takes the characters to London, Paris and on to Scotland, with hot sex, a decadent outlook and yet more sex. Meanwhile the evil Lyndon seems to be following them, keen to win his heiress back, with no chance. So if you like your heroes with a brogue and a different set of values, I recommend THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE.

Lord Cameron MacKenzie, one of the domineering, wild independent Scottish brothers loves two things in life: horses and women. In that order. Well, he also loves his brothers and son Daniel. Like each of his brothers, Cameron has a secret. He also has his reasons for his debauched and raucous life style. Moving from woman to woman before any become too close he knows how to give pleasure where and when it counts, but never in his bed.

Ainsley Douglas has her share of secrets as well as a strong sense of duty. Both work well for her in her position within the Queen’s household. Sent by the Queen to retrieve some highly personal letters Ainsley finds herself wrapped in Cameron’s life in more ways than one. She tries her best to avoid the MacKenzie Lord, but time and again her finds attraction to him growing. When Cameron saves the Queen’s reputation for Ainsley, she begins to succumb to his charm. But Cameron wants more than a delectable night with Ainsley. Can he put aside his own dark secret and trembling long enough to find his way to her?

This third installment of Jennifer Ashley’s MacKenzie brothers series was far too long in coming. I loved Ian and Mac’s stories and really thought they would be a tough act to follow. Cam’s story is equally delectable. Ms. Ashley has given each of the brothers their own personal pain and portrays it so emotionally you want to reach out and comfort each of them. Each is unique, so very different and wonderfully drawn. She deals with each of their issues, through her heroines, with warmth, compassion and ultimately, love.

With Daniel Ms. Ashley delivers another level of family into the story. She teases her readers that after eldest brother Hart’s story there might be more—after all, Ainsley has four brothers and Daniel is growing up.

Ms. Ashley writes love scenes that are sensual, have you holding your breath and leave you wanting more. Hopefully Hart’s story won’t be long in the making!

When she arrives in a new Shifter-town, Sean Morrissey mate-claims her, as it is the only way she will be accepted and protected in her new abode. Living with her aunt and with Sean next door, Sean can protect her with no problem. The attraction he feels towards her distracts him like no one’s business and Andrea is highly attracted to him too. She looks at him without fear and stands up to alphas and lower shifters alike. She is like no other woman he knows. But the Fae are trying to get control over the shifters again and Andrea’s secret past is catching up with her. The main thing now is to survive, mating frenzy notwithstanding.

I really loved this book. It grabbed me, held me down and didn’t let me go until I had read the last page. I totally fell in love with Sean. Wow, I wouldn’t mind that sexy feline shifter protecting me! I love how he handled Andrea and accepted her as she was. And Andrea is a perfect mate for him. Their destinies are intertwined with each other although at first this is not clear. Ms Ashley does a wonderful job of putting these two together. I loved her whole world of shifters living among humans, although the humans are a sorry lot. You have just got to read this book if you love a shifter story with some hot, emotional, sensual sex scenes. There is even a little romance on the side with two other secondary characters that you’ll be rooting for too. I need to get the first book in this series and watch out for the next one. Absolutely great stuff!

Swept off her feet and down the aisle at her debut ball, Lady Isabella MacKenzie found adventure and love with her husband, Mac MacKenzie. At the end of three years of marriage, however, she packed her bags and left.

The third in age of the four MacKenzie brothers, all with their own wild and crazy streak, Mac has never stopped loving his wife, Isabella. Even through the fog of his drunken despair with Isabella’s departure he knows she is his one true love and the only woman for him. He will do anything to bring his wife back into his life and puts aside his drink and after an agonizing withdrawal period becomes a devoted tea-totaler. What he finds though, is that he can no longer paint. Oh he goes through the motions, but his art is nothing like the emotion evoking paintings he crafted with Isabella by his side. And then one day, she appears at his door.

No, she hasn’t returned to reunite in wedding bliss. Rather, something odd has happened, something disturbingly odd – someone is forging Mac’s signature on paintings that are so like his that even his signature yellow paint is used. The situation takes a nasty turn when the forgerer turns to arsonist and sets fire to Mac’s house.

I very much enjoyed the second in Jennifer Ashley’s MacKenzie brother series, LADY ISABELLA’S SCANDALOUS MARRIAGE almost as much as I enjoyed book 1, The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie. I did have a bit of a time remembering the title, but it worked with Mac’s story. You can’t help but fall in love with the MacKenzie brothers and it was good to catch up with Ian, Hart and Cameron as Mac’s story unfolded. After reading Mac’s story and his personal struggles it seems Ms. Ashley is tackling societal ills or wrongs and through intensely told love stories bringing the struggles of those with these issues to light. The word “autistic” was not used for Ian yet he demonstrated many of the behaviors of a high functioning autistic. Mac’s struggle is with alcohol and its devastating effect on those an alcoholic loves. There are hints of Cameron and Hart’s struggles as the pages unfold. It also seems that there is a bit more steam to the love scenes in each book and readers are tantalized by passing phrases regarding Hart and his sex life. Ms Ashley certainly knows how to lure in and seduce her readers!

At times Mac’s painting apparel became a tad repetitive and I wasn’t fully satisfied with the forger’s explanation and outcome. I felt like the thread was dropped just when a fulfilling explanation was just around the corner. Perhaps those answers will be found in Cameron or Hart’s stories.

LADY ISABELLA’S SCANDALOUS MARRIAGE is a stand-alone story and events leading up to it from The Madness of Lord Ian MacKenzie are well done. They add to the fullness of this story. I would recommend reading them in order; neither is a do not miss read.

Attending the opera with her fiancé, Sir Lyndon Mather, Beth Ackerly expected merely to find herself lost in the music and drama of the stage. She wasn’t quite prepared to meet Lord Ian MacKenzie, a gentleman society refers to as mad. Ian essentially proves his instability when he promptly proposes marriage to Beth. While he does wait until Lyndon is out of range, in his customary lack of obeyance to society’s rules, he does breach etiquette with his stunning proposal. Beth politely declines yet breaks her engagement to Lyndon and leaves for Paris. Again in Pari,s Ian comes into Beth’s life through his brother’s estranged wife, Isabella.

Another person has followed them to France; the intrepid Inspector Fellows. Hell bent to prove the MacKenzies are responsible for all manner of vile acts, including the murders of two prostitutes, he accosts Beth and asks her to spy on the brothers. Using Fellows as the excuse for the prompt marriage, Ian weds her.

Ian does not declare his undying love or proffer his proposal in romantic terms. He merely states his belief and desire to protect Beth. It is not that Ian chooses to be arrogant and heartless He merely knows no other way. Ian’s greatest fear is that he will lose Beth and that he may well be the cause yet he has no way to stop himself from causing that harm. Beth finds herself in love with the mad lord but is that love enough?

The layers of Jennifer Ashley’s THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE rivals the petals of a rose opening. While the story begins with a dashing lord, albeit an eccentric one, appearing at the opera and sweeping the heroine off her feet. Yet there is a marvelous undercurrent in Ian’s behavior that unfolds as your turn the pages of this sometimes heart wrenching tale. While the treatments for insanity have changed dramatically since the late 1800’s, we still know so little about any number of mental illnesses. Ian’s behavior is reminiscent of the Dustin Hoffman character in Rainman except he is able to connect with his family and Beth. I saw him as not only a high functioning autistic, but one of the extremely intelligent ones. His inability to make eye contact, his struggle to allow the woman he loves to touch him, are done with compassion and understanding. He is perhaps the most unique hero I have read in quite some time. Oh yes, he is big and brawny with alpha tendencies, but they are intricate parts of his own tortured personality.

Beth’s determination to protect the man she loves and get to the bottom of the mystery surrounding the MacKenzies and Inspector Fellows shows her as intelligent and caring rather than a flighty and dithering heroine.

The story is not only a marvelous historical love story. Readers are treated to not just one but two somewhat suspenseful murder mysteries. For those who love a who-done-it, THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE is a treat.

The secondary characters, especially those that will have their own stories to tell do not intrude but are wonderful additions to the story. I barely read the last page before I picked up book 2 of this series and just a few pages in I know it will be a hard book to put down.

Welcome to Jennifer Ashley's guest blog

Welcome Ms. Jennifer Ashley to Love Romances and More, thank you for joining us.

Did you always want to become a writer?

Yes. Since I was eight years old. I started writing stories about that age and haven’t stopped since.

What is the most, and the least interesting fact about writing?

Most interesting—making up new worlds and characters.
Least interesting—Typing. Dull.

How did you celebrate your first release? What was it like to see your book in a bookstore? Do you have a special ritual for celebrating a book release?

I celebrated my first release by freaking out. I didn’t quite know what to do. I was so excited to see my book in print and so terrified it wouldn’t sell. What should have been a happy time turned into a stress-out fest.

Now I celebrate a book release by putting my hot-off-the-press author copy on the shelf next to the rest of the books I wrote and taking my husband out to dinner. I’m much calmer!

My husband has a ritual—he goes out to a store during the first week of release, buys a copy of my book, and has me sign it to him. (Ain’t he sweet?)

How did your family react to fact that you also write romance novels? Have your family read your books?

My mother-in-law, who recently passed away, adored romance novels. Her collection grew to 40,000 books! (I’m not kidding.) She loved the fact that I wrote them.

My husband loves it. He reads all my books (except for a couple Allyson James ones with m/m/f in it—he can’t go for that *g*).

But most people in my family (except my MIL) aren’t romance readers, and neither are my friends. They apologize to me a lot for not reading my books.

Most authors are also avid readers. Is this the case with you? If so, who are some of your favorites? Have any influenced your writing?

I try to read two books a week, usually a romance and one from another genre. I love mysteries! My favorite mystery author at the moment is Lindsey Davis, but I also like Tony Hillerman, M.C. Beaton (Hamish Macbeth series), and Elizabeth Peters. I’ve also “discovered” Donna Leon, who I am very much enjoying.

In romance, I adore Nina Bangs. She’s hilarious. How she thinks of what she does, I can’t guess. I also just “discovered” Virginia Kantra who is a beautiful writer with amazing characters.

I’m also an urban fantasy fan: Charlaine Harris and Patricia Briggs are my favorites. (True Blood, woo hoo!) Carrie Vaughan too, though I haven’t read through all the Kitty books yet. I’m so excited that I get to write some urban fantasy this year!!

Your characters come to life in your books. Do you feel each of your characters live with you as you write? Do their lives sometimes take over a part of your life? Can you name an example? Do you have living role models for your characters?

I do feel like my characters live with me as I write. One exercise I do for character development is to imagine what my characters would say if they drove around with me in my car. What would they notice? And how would they express their opinions? That’s always fun.

I don’t have living role models for characters (that I’m aware of). My characters grow inside my head from a germ that comes from who knows where. I simply watch what they become and write it down.

Where do you get the inspirations for your books?

Inspiration comes from many different things: A random thought, something I read in a newspaper, something I stumble across during historical research, something I see while out shopping. Inspiration comes all the time and strikes when I least expect it. My stories usually gestate in my brain for up to a year or more before they develop enough to be full novels.

Do you find it difficult at times to write love scenes?

No, I love writing love scenes. The love scene has the potential to be the most boring in the book, so I strive to make each one different, unexpected, and interesting. I usually rewrite the love scene four or five times before I think it’s right. They’re difficult and I have to be in the “mood,” but I enjoy the challenge.

What is your favorite book from the books that you have written so far? Who are your favorite hero and heroine, and why?

I have a hard time with this question! I am smitten right now with Ian Mackenzie and his brothers from my May 2009 release, The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie.

But then I love Megan and Alexander from The Mad, Bad Duke. They’re one of my favourite couples.

All the Shareem from my Allyson James Tales of the Shareem books are gorgeous, sexy, and damaged. I love those guys.

I’m also falling in love with Liam Morrissey from my upcoming new paranormal series, Pride Mates (Jan 2010).

And then there are the pirates . . .

I like them all! I can’t choose.

So far you have written historical and paranormal romances as well as some steamier stuff under your pen name Allyson James, which of the genres is your favorite?

I adore historical romances and always have. When I first started reading romance, I refused to read anything that wasn’t historical! I didn’t like paranormals when they first started getting popular, because I was annoyed that almost all of them were contemporary. Then I read Sherrilyn Kenyon and Charlaine Harris and was converted.

My preference is still historicals, and I’m glad the popularity of historicals has never died. (People said it died, but I never believed them. My historical sales have been fine.)

However, I am happy to have the opportunity to explore paranormals. I grew up reading fantasy and scifi (not romance), and I like marrying fantasy with romance.

Which book was the hardest to write and which the easiest?

The most difficult book—a tie between The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie and Highlander Ever After.

Highlander Ever After because I was burned out and going through writers’ block when I wrote it. No matter what I did, it just didn’t come out right. I’m still not happy with it.

Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie because Ian’s character was so difficult to pin down. I started the book eight times (usually reaching 100 pages before I threw it away and started again) before it was right.

Easiest—I don’t think there has been an easiest. They’re all a challenge. The novellas and short stories should be “easier” because there’s fewer pages, but they’re not really.

If you could change places with one character from your books, who would it be and why?

Hmm. Right now I’d say Kim from Pride Mates (a book no one knows about because I’m still writing it). She’s a defense attorney who doesn’t take sh*t from anyone, and she comes up against a family of very sexy shapeshifting men—Irish guys with dark blue eyes and black hair. Yum.

If you could travel through time to visit a special time period or famous person, what or who would it be and why?

I have a problem with time travel… namely, plumbing. I like bathrooms with running water. I love to read about the past, but I doubt I’d be comfortable going there.

I’d love to have met Jane Austen, though, and listened to her conversation. I’d also love to talk to Louisa May Alcott or L.M. Montgomery. I read Little Women and Anne of Green Gables until the books fell apart. It would be fun to speak to the authors who created some of my favorite characters of all time.

Do you listen to music while you are writing and if so what music is it?
I have guitar music (jazz and rock) loaded into an iPod that I listen to while I write at coffee houses. I like guitarists because (a) I’m a guitarist (more or less), and (b) the music doesn’t have words to distract me. Except Stevie Ray Vaughan—he can sing if he wants to.

If you could choose of your books for a movie, which one would it be and who would you as the cast?

Interestingly enough, it would be my one contemporary, Confessions of a Lingerie Addict. I think it would make a decent romantic comedy (any producer can call my publisher, Dorchester, OK?)

Casting? I am very bad at thinking of actors who would portray my characters. Whoever the studio hired would play them, LOL. I can picture actors for other people’s characters but not my own. Don’t know why.

Are you working on anything right now, and can you tell us a teaser about these projects?
I’m working on three things:

1. A paranormal shapeshifter romance called Pride Mates (Jan. 2010). I’m writing that for Love Spell as Jennifer Ashley.

2. An urban fantasy for Berkley as Allyson James. A sexy story featuring a half-Navajo woman who can call the power of storms, and who is an investigator of paranormal phenomena. (Stormwalker, May 2010)

3. Lady Isabella’s Scandalous Marriage (book 2 of the Lord Ian Mackenzie series). Historical as Jennifer Ashley, Leisure, sometime in 2010.

More about all these can be found on my website

Big congrats to your newest release, The madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie, can you tell us something more about the book?

The year is 1881. Lord Ian Mackenzie is the youngest of four sons of the Scottish Duke of Kilmorgan. Ian’s father, for reasons that are revealed in the book, had Ian declared mad when Ian was ten years old and committed to an asylum. Ian stayed in the asylum for ten years, being released by his oldest brother Hart on the day their father died.

Ian has this amazing memory—he’s able to learn strings of numbers or pieces of music after hearing them only once. Hart uses him as kind of a human recorder, to remember conversations Hart has with political allies or rivals; Ian is also great with accounts.

Ian knows he’s not “normal,” but he’s rich enough that he can live his own life with help from his brothers and his loyal valet. He collects Ming bowls (never vases, and never any period but Ming), and he loves beautiful women (and they adore him).

Enter Beth Ackerley. Beth grew up in East End workhouses after her con-man father died, and married a penniless vicar. When her husband died, she became a companion of a rich old lady, and the rich old lady passed on and left Beth a fortune. Beth decides to take her money, travel and forget her troubles (including the jerk who tried to marry her for her money). She wants to go to Paris, study art, and live without drama.

And then the mad Lord Ian Mackenzie decides he wants her.

(Author’s note: Ian Mackenzie has Asperger’s Syndrome, which is high-functioning autism. I wondered what it would be like to have this kind of disorder in an age when no one knew what it was. The idea took root, and the book was born).

Thanks for the interview!

Tain is one of the youngest and most tortured of the Immortals. Kidnapped and imprisoned with a sadistic demon, he finds himself free of the pain he has endured for many centuries to a world greatly changed. Scars deep inside have him shunning his brothers to a degree until he finds himself drawn to a half demon/half human woman who calls to all that was once lost within. A violent backlash has happened after the war between vampires and demons a year ago and demon women are missing. Tain asks Samantha for help and as these two race against the clock to stop an ancient evil hell bent on conquering the world, both find a love that will either deliver the greatest of ecstasy or destroy them both.

Jennifer Ashley has done it again with her next chapter in the Immortals Series. THE REDEEMING is a story of Tain, an immortal warrior who was kidnapped by a vengeful demon and then tortured for over seven hundred centuries. Pain lies deep in his soul and psyche yet one woman calls to him like no other. After being rescued by his brothers, their wives and Samantha, the woman who fills something inside him that is lost, Tain tries to get reacquainted with a world that differs greatly from his memories. Strong yet vulnerable, Tain is a character that had this reviewer dropping her jaw and rooting for him to find the love he craved yet shunned at the same time. He has been forefront in all the past Immortal books and it was a delight to read how he found himself again though greatly changed. He is drawn to Samantha yet doesn’t believe the idea that he could ever love a woman, especially a half-demon one at that. She is a cop who finds that she never stopped loving him, even with all his problems. This character is kind yet tough, gentle yet kick ass; Samantha delivers a much needed kick in Tain’s ass when he keeps pushing her away yet is drawn to her with a desire that is scorching hot. Ms. Ashley delivers two of the most multidimensional characters to date in the series and she definitely keeps the sexual tension running on high!

THE REDEEMING is the 5th book in the series and though you can read it stand alone, I recommend that you read the others in the series first to understand what Tain went through as well as who the other characters that are mentioned throughout the book are. If you enjoy a gripping story with captivating characters, some of the hottest sex scenes this reader ever read and a series that will keep you guessing, then grab the IMMORTALS: THE REDEEMING. This reader is definitely eager for the next installment of the Immortals saga and to find out what is next for t hem all. Run quick to grab this entire series so far and get ready for a day full of fun, magic and mysteries as the IMMORTALS deliver their brand of judgment on a world full of beings you only read about.
