THREE HEARTS

Pepper Hannigan hasn’t had the easiest life, but she’s made the most of it. Her family is a bit odd—her parents starting out as hippies before joining a cult. Her sister is about to marry a much older man with a questionable background, her brother has been in trouble and her mother has some health concerns. She’s a single mother whose first priority is her daughter, Juno.  Pepper will not ever do anything that could harm her daughter physically, mentally or emotionally. She’s determined to be the mother she never had.

Augustus, aka Auggie, Hero is exactly what his last name is – a hero. A former active duty Marine, now a commando, he’s all about doing the right thing.  One of those things is Pepper. He’s crazy about her, but he’s been hurt in the past. He’s determined not to get hurt again and Pepper could well do that. In fact, without even trying, because of her own history, she pushes him away while at the same time grabbing on to him because deep down she really cares about him.

Can two wounded people find their way to each other?

When I received DREAM KEEPER for review I went back to read the first book of this series, DREAM MAKER and thought it was an okay read. I hadn’t read Ashley before so while the DREAM TEAM is a separate series there were characters from prior series I had no information on and there was little to no back story on them.  I felt like I was in the middle of a book with no beginning. Because of that I didn’t pick up the middle two between Dream Maker and Dream Keeper but dove into Dream Keeper.

I liked Pepper and Auggie as characters.  I like what they stand for and how they go about taking care of the business at hand. Both are vulnerable because of their histories and Ashley brings her readers along as they work through the traumas in both their pasts.  The secondary characters, mainly her sister and brother, had their own issues that Pepper and Auggie, with help from their friends help resolve.

This is a story of learning to trust, letting love in, and how family can both damage and heal each other.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
