Lainey Livingston had one goal while growing up: to get to be a member of the Elite Hands of Justice. As one of its newest members and a bit of a nerd, she finally realizes her dream and now has to survive two years of training with the superhero known as The Reincarnist. What Lainey doesn’t expect is the feelings he awakens in her. With an evil madman bent on causing chaos to destroy Megolopolis, can Lainey and her fellow EHJ heroes find a way to stop him in time or will it be too late?

AJ Menden is a new author to me and I fell in love with this author’s light hearted romp into the Superhero world. This author captivates her readers from the beginning and delivers a story that is highly entertaining and kept me up half the night trying to see what happens to Lainey and her fellow EHJ superheroes.

Meet Lainey Livingston, an orphan who shuffled through foster homes until her powers made themselves known and she was sent to the SCHOOL and there her desire to be part of the Heroes who make up Elite Hands of Justice was formed. Determined to prove herself, she finds herself drawn to Robert Elliott, AKA The Reincarnist. Neither expects to fall in love nor be part of a prophecy that will either destroy the world or save it. Lainey is flawed, vulnerable and determined to prove herself, even as she finds life as a superhero not all that is cracked up to be. With new friends, bad guys gunning for them and more, Ms. Menden delivers a fresh story that has you rooting for Lainey and Robert even as things heat up in the race to the climatic ending. I really enjoyed how Lainey interacted with everyone and showed Robert that she can be tough when she needs to be and doesn’t worship the ground he walks on as a superhero.

AJ Menden takes a world and creates a contemporary spin on it that will appeal to readers. I really enjoyed the kick off to the series in PHENOMINAL GIRL 5 and found the writing to be tight, with a fast paced storyline and exceptional characters that keep you glued to the pages. I look forward to more of the series as we meet the main characters more in-depth. Run to grab this light hearted fun book and be prepared to find a new author to enjoy.
