It’s always hard to rate a non-fiction unless it’s really awful
or really good. Cat Smiley’s The Planet
Friendly Diet: Your 21 Day Guide to
Sustainable Weight Loss and Optimal Health is one of those really good books.
The Planet Friendly Diet is much more than a diet – it is an
introduction to a sustainable and healthy way of living for those new to the
idea and a supportive narrative for those already living “green” as it
were. I read the electronic ARC and even
the ebook has some marvellous photos of people harvesting sustainable food
products as well as menu creations.
There is some wonderful history of food and nutrients followed by explanations
of why we need to eat certain food groups and what healthier, vegan or non-meat
products are available to meet those nutritional needs. Mixed in are some delicious sounding recipes
including one for salmon that was just fantastic.
Smile
doesn’t hit readers over the head with “this is the be all and end all and you
must do this” writing, but takes readers along the path to healthier, more
sustainable eating.
One
reason I’d advocate for the e-version of the book is it makes it much easier to
carry around as a reference or while traveling, if cooking facilities are
available, to turn to those really fabulous reciipies.
This is an objective review and an endorsement of this
book.
