Dr. Paul Jackson has moved to the country to assist a very busy older practitioner. He’s getting a feel for the job and coming to know the regular patients, but refuses to let anyone know he’s gay because he doesn’t think people in a small country town will accept a gay doctor.

Steve Parker has returned to town to care for his dying grandfather, who has refused to go to hospital. Steve is shattered at how close to the end his beloved grandfather is. It’s another shock to his system when he realizes he knows Paul as well.

This is a very well written story. Ms. Davitt draws the reader in with compelling descriptions and strong emotions. There is an incredible amount of depth in the story. Layers of conversations, levels of history and the past between the various characters, plus the usual complications, blessings and curses of small-town life.
Even the weather is like an extra character throughout the book. There are some excellent lines where the author gives deep characterization so aptly in just a few words. One I really likes was, “It looked like stubborn and stupid ran in his family”. Simple, yet profound and absolutely pertinent.

The second person intrusions annoyed me. I know it’s a British habit, and the author was born there, but these characters are American and it didn’t seem right for them. Nevertheless, this is still a very good read full of deeply overflowing emotions and characters that are very real and appealing.

Steve is a blood donor for vampires that are dying due to trauma. He is one of the few people who can withstand the mind-hazing skills of the vampires. This is the only reason he can do this job.

So he meets North, a vampire that suffers from severe sunburn. North is an old vampire, who likes the old ways of the hunt, but lives by the new rules. But when he’s all healed and better, he makes Steve an offer. He wants to do an actual hunt across the city.

Steve is a bit reluctant at first but than goes along anyway, with disastrous results. When he’s attacked by a serial killer, North saves him. But in the vampire world this means Steve’s live now belongs to North.

Steve is not amused and doesn’t want anything to do with North anymore. He soon notices he can’t resist the bond and needs North now. North can only drink from Steve now or he’ll die. They will have to come up with a way to resolve their problems or it won’t end well.

It was a nice read. The angst was good, so was the plot line. There was some humor during the hunt that gave me the feeling the story was going to be a killer one. Unfortunately it went a little downhill after that. Yes the plot line was good, but the way it was written not.

Steve was acting like a spoiled brat even though the author tried to justify his actions. North was manipulative and some times even a tad meaner than necessary. The overall feeling became a bit too dark for my taste and the ending a bit hurried.

Still it wasn’t all bad and it makes an nice story, just not excellent. The first half was better than the second.

This anthology gives us a variety of enticing worlds and adventures from eight enthralling authors. Each story pulls the reader into its world and does not let go until the end. All of the stories revolve around some kind of relationships that involves kink and takes place around the holidays. We get to enjoy so many different characters and their loves and lives.

Tree Topper by Jane Davitt gives us Martin and Stan. A new couple as well as a new Dom. Martin is new to the lifestyle and his sub Stan has pushing his buttons and this time he may have pushed too far.

’Twas the Night by Ava March is Percival and Michael’s story. On this night Michael is determined to get Percival to finally ask for what he wants.

In Fireworks by Katie Porter Rachel and Emma share a special New Year’s night before Rachel leaves for Tokyo. Will this be the goodbye that Emma thinks it is or will she receive the surprise of her life?

Candy Caning by L.A. Witt is Nate and Stephen’s story. Every year they visit Nate’s family for Christmas but this year Nate hates what has now become a chore. That is until Stephen finds a way to make it into a highly erotic adventure.

Submissive Angel by Joey W. Hill takes us into the lives of Ange and Robert. Ange has worked for Robert ever since Robert found him in the alley behind his store. Robert has tried to stay away from him but he longs for Ange and what they could be. On this night he returns to the store unannounced and finds he cannot withstand the pull of Ange.

Open Return by Elyan Smith brings us Zach and his return to a small town that he left behind so many years ago. Laura and Scott are a dominant couple that he returns to, but will they accept him back or has he run out of time?

Ring Out the Old and In the New by Alexa Snow gives us the story of Evan and Russell. After an attack in the train station that leaves him scarred. Evan longs to hide away from the world but Russell will not let him go without a fight and he is determined to show Evan just how beautiful he still is.

His Very Last Chance by Kim Dare tells us the story of Kingsley and Drew. After hearing Drew talking to other subs he makes a decision to prove to Drew that there is so much more to their relationship than just sex.

This book gives us so much more than a quick hot read. These stories are all full of emotions with characters full of depth. Love and trust plays a strong role in each and every one of these stories. I enjoyed seeing the depth of feelings that these couples have and the lengths that they will go through to show each other just how much they mean to them. As with any anthology there were stories that grabbed my attention more than others but I still enjoyed it as whole and will be sure to look for more from these authors. I would also like to mention another great reason to read this book; 20% of all proceeds from this book is being donated to the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom.
