Sammy always thought if himself as worthless and a nobody.  O’Flaggan made sure to beat it into him since he was a child both physically and mentally. The archbishop made sure to keep Sammy demeaned and barley alive. When the Sammy wakes in a cell from his last beating with two magical beings giving all that they can to save him he does not know what to think and when others like them come to save them Sammy is taken along with them. As he heals Sammy meats many people but none as good as Gabe. The man truly seems to like him and want to be near him. Nobody ever wants that and Sammy is at a loss. So conflicted with his new found friends and emotions and all that O’Flaggan kept reinforcing on Sammy. Can he rise above it all and find his true self and leave behind his old life or has the evil won already?

I enjoyed watching Sammy and Gabe’s relationship begin to take shape. Gabe is a good man and no matter what happens he just wants Sammy to heal, inside and out. Gabe longs for so much but he is ready to try and put his feelings aside to make sure that Sammy is healthy.  Sammy must find  a way to figure out what is true and  make some hard choices about his life and when he helps to rescue Fin the decisions are that are to be made become more intense. It was nice to see Sammy find more than friendship with his rescuers. All are more than willing to fight for what is right in the world and  gladly embrace Sammy and his true worth. The author does a nice job of weaving the romance in with the action making this an engaging read. Sammy’s new world is an adventure and full of emotions that will grab you right from the start.  It was nice to see Sammy come into his own and find out just what he truly is worth. I am eager to see what will happen in the next book of this series.

Once again there is evil hiding and attacking those that they see as unfit and those that are not human. Jude is being hunted and constantly attacked. This last time may be the last for him if he cannot find safety. Jude can only hope that his companions have somehow managed to escape his fate but there is hope. A man who comes out of nowhere only to find Jude. Could Nico be an ally or is he another of the things sent to kill Jude? Fate has given Jude just what he needs in Nico but can the two find a way to fight the evil intent on removing Jude from the picture?

This second book brings readers back to the world where government has been abandoned and the church has risen in power. Those that are different, especially those deemed a maker and those that are supernatural have much to fear. Yet changes are happening in the church but there are those that do not like it and want to exterminate all that they see as not human. This is the story of Judas and Nico. I enjoyed meeting Judas and am glad he got his story told. Judas is going through a lot and he must try to believe in himself and understand that he is special not evil. Watching him find his way was a nice read. Nico is a good man and I enjoyed seeing him and his friends rally together to help Judas and his friends. Not only did we get a sweet romance but we also got to meet some intriguing supernatural beings and of course visit with a few gargoyles from the first book. Trust and love are rare and Jude finds out just how precious they are. His story moves at a good pace and has a nice balance of action and romance. The author does a nice job of showing Jude and Nico’s emotions and actions. You are pulled in to this world right from the start and I am eagerly waiting to see just what will happen next in this world.

A new world emerges after the wars have wiped out most of humanity. The governments have all gone away and now the church rules in many places. Yet all is not safe or calm. A young man named Evan must deal with his beliefs and those of the church not being the same and he soon begins to realize that he may be so much more than just a stone worker. Evan finds that he is able to awaken gargoyles who have long since become myths for people nowadays. What will he do with is new found power and just what will become of Evan and the gargoyles?

This was an intriguing read. I found the loss of government and the new ruling of the church to be an interesting read. Evan is a good man and I enjoyed seeing him find his true self.  He must learn to understand his ability and what it means. As he continues to awaken the gargoyles the truths come out but not everyone is happy and Evan must be careful. The church is not all forgiving and is not happy with this kind of magic. I was treated to a wonderful adventure with this story. It quickly pulled me in and took me along with Evan on his adventure to find out as many answers that he can. I loved the gargoyles that were brought back to life. Each one has its own personality and endeared themselves to me as much as they did to Evan. The author does a good job of building a magical world full of engaging characters that will have you wanting to see more of this world.
