Grace Hawthorne, a companion to Lady Sutton, has been instructed to teach Anthony Maddox all he needs to know for his reintroduction into society. Anthony has just been brought back from Africa against his will. On an expedition with his late father, Anthony fell off the boat and was presumed dead. His grandmother believes he is her grandson but there are others who don’t and those who would prefer that he remains dead.

It is the lead couple that makes this story work. Grace is a solid heroine. She is not a flighty girl but a mature woman wanting a family of her own. Grace is realistic about herself but there is a small flame of longing for her “true love”. Anthony is a man who believes he would be happier in Africa. He believed that his father abandoned him and this belief is shaken when he learns the truth. There is a lot to like in Anthony. He is a survivor and tries his best to accommodate his grandmother’s wishes. The scenes where Grace is trying to teach him are absolutely wonderful. These characters are experiencing lots of emotions and we see it through their actions. The author builds their love story slowly and it pulls the reader into it.

Ms. Maguire is famous for her medieval romances but Wild is set in the regency era. I really enjoyed this story as we watch Anthony become more “civilized” as well as the progression of their love story. This is definitely a page turner and historical romance lovers will enjoy this latest offering from Ms. Maguire.

Merrick MacLochlainn is the high chieftain of his clan. He must travel forward in time to protect his people. Upon finding the locket from her parents gone, Jenny heads out to reclaim it. Merrick saves her from thieves and he is hurt in the process. They are saved by gypsies and Jenny claims him as her husband. Jenny Keating claims to be his wife but he has no memory of her or his mission.

Merrick is the epitome of a yummy hero. Powerful, brave, loyal and handsome are words that describe him to a T. He is a man who finds himself torn between his wife and his people. Merrick has traveled through time to find the sacred stone that will save his clan but he finds himself falling for Jenny. This reader was reminded of Jane Eyre as we came to know Jenny better. She was orphaned and had to work under harsh conditions but she is also a very strong woman who doesn’t buckle under. Jenny also has powers that she keeps hidden. Merrick and Jenny is a lovely couple. It is not surprising they are attracted to each other. There is a nice chemistry between them and they really pop off the pages.

TEMPTATION OF THE WARRIOR is the sequel to Ms. Maguire’s earlier book, A Warrior’s Taking. This is not just a historical romance. The author does a great job of weaving the paranormal aspects into the romance. The story moves at a fast pace as there is a lot going on and readers will be engrossed by the storylines.
