Emeralds, Vampires and immortality all this and more are included in this book. Alys is an archaeologist that lives for her work. She never expected nor did she long for romance. Yet when she meets Beaumaris she cannot seem to shake her emotions.  The two make a wonderful couple. Alys may fall for Beaumaris but she is still able to stand up to him. The sparks fly between the two from the start and only get hotter as the story goes on.

Not only do we get Alys and Beaumaris’s story but you are also treated to the happenings going on around them. Things are going on at the Knights Realm Stronghold. Knights and traitors, a human is trying to get a job at the castle and so much more. This story is full of action and may seem a little scattered at times but everything comes full circle in the end.

Alys thinks that she may have found a significant and historic find but the Darkyn know what she is coming close to finding. She is about to unearth the emeralds of immortality. Not only must Beaumaris keep an eye on her work it seems he must also keep Alys safe.

I am a big fan of this author and of this series. I was pulled in in right from the start and fully enthralled all the way to the end of this book. The author does a great job of bringing the characters and their world vividly to life. As we get to read Alys and Beaumaris’s story we also get to visit with some characters from previous book as meeting new ones.

DREAMVEIL is a fast paced, action story that will have you on the edge of your seat from the very first page. I loved how this author captivated me till the very end. The writing was tight, the story flowed at an even pace and the characters were well written. There are a few plot twists I didn’t see coming and had me going “Oh my god!” a lot. This author does a great job in keeping the action and suspense going strong while making sure the plot doesn’t stop suddenly or have the reader lose interest after awhile. I haven’t read one of Kyndred stories in a while and found myself flipping the pages eager to see what would happen next for Rowan. There were characters from the first book back and a few new ones that had me wondering what their secrets are.

I have to stress that though you don’t need to read these books in order, I highly recommend that you do since many of the characters from the first few books of the Kyndred series and from the Darkyn series pop in and out in DREAMVEIL. I found Ms. Viehl’s latest Kyndred book to be a winner and I look forward to reading more of the Kyndred books in the future. If she keeps the intensity and roller coaster ride as she does in DREAMVEIL, I have a feeling she will find new fans. DREAMVEIL is a mixture of mystery, suspense, paranormal and lots of action. All which leave me clamoring for more. I can’t wait to see what is next for the Kyndred series from Ms. Viehl.

Lynn Viehl’s FROSTFIRE had me scratching my head at times. It took a long time for me to get into the story. It had a lot of characters to keep track of, a storyline that felt a bit disjointed and felt like the author was trying to get all her characters some screen time regardless if they were part of the story or not. Ms. Viehl is a talented author who creates some interesting characters and storylines but with FROSTFIRE, it was a little confusing. Though I have to admit once the storyline finally settled down, I was intrigued by the twists and turn the mysterious Walker and Lilah were going through.

Walker is a man with secrets and deadly enemies. Finding himself cuffed to a kyndred and on the run leaves him determined to get to the bottom of things…even if it kills him…again. I liked this character a lot. He was a mysterious, take charge type of hero I could picture running through the jungles, dodging bullets. Lilah was an intriguing mix of vulnerability and determination. She was the perfect heroine to pair with Walker and the sparks fly whenever these two butted heads….which was often. There were secondary characters that I felt were included as more of a filler type and not directly involved with the story itself.

Though FROSTFIRE takes a bit to get into, once Ms. Viehl sets up the story, she continues to keep her reader’s attention till the very end. I enjoyed this authors last few books and though this latest was not as good, it is an acceptable story to read in the Kyndred series. I am looking forward to seeing what this author will deliver next to her readers.

The Kyndred are normal people who have been changed by vampire DNA and are unaware of this. Here, we meet Lilah who can control the minds of animals. She has been living undercover until she rescues some children from a wild bear and GenHance becomes aware of her. GenHance is on the lookout for people like Lilah as they are collecting DNA. So, Lilah is drugged and kidnapped and awakes in the back of a refrigerated truck, cuffed to a man who seems more dead than alive. Walker is ready to die, but the warm woman lying next to him brings him back from what seems like certain death. Now he wants to protect her from whomever it is who has captured them. They find a town where strange things are happening and the folks there are not what they seem. Lilah is also being hunted by someone she least expects.

When I got this book in my hands, my mouth watered and I thought I would be in for a wonderfully, exciting read. Well, it was certainly exciting with lots happening, but for some strange reason, I had a hard time really diving into this story. I’m not sure why. I think it was difficult for me to warm up to Walker. Or maybe it was because sometimes the plot seemed elusive. It could also be because I haven’t read any other books about the Kyndred and was not familiar with the myriad of characters that showed up. There were various sub-plots and a little romance happening on the side. The ending was really good and I certainly didn’t see that coming!

All in all, FROSTFIRE was an interesting read and I liked how this author created her world and her characters, but I think I will need to read the previous books in the series to get a better handle on the story.

TWILIGHT FALL is the sixth book of the series by author Lynn Viehl and in it she delivers a story so powerful, it consumes everything around you. Having never read any of these stories before, I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy reading a book out of order and to my surprise, this was very, very good at keeping you updated on who was who and though it might have been easier to read the other books first, I thoroughly enjoyed TWILIGHT FALL. Fast paced, intriguing characters and tight writing make TWILIGHT FALL a very enjoyable story to read on a summer evening. I really enjoyed how this author transformed a tired vampire plot and turned it around into something absorbing and an entertaining read.

Ms. Viehl definitely delivers a story that can keep you highly entertained for hours on end. I know I was lost in the story and wanted to see what would happen next for Valentin and Liling. These two characters were superb together. They complimented the other perfectly and the passion that flared between them was red hot. I was afraid it would start smoking in my book. If you enjoy a different take on Vampires, then read TWILIGHT FALL as well as the others in the Darkyn World. Ms. Viehl is definitely on my keeper shelf and I hope she is on yours as well.
