Emma Brimley runs away from London, her evil Uncle’s plans for her, and also the very demanding Penelope who treats her like a slave. She accepts a teaching position in a Yorkshire school, using a false endorsement without knowing exactly what would be required of her. On her arrival at Pettibone School for young ladies, the Miss’s. Cecilia and Beatrice Higgins give her a warm welcome, despite expecting an older woman. When Emma learns she is to prepare the older girls for the intimacies of marriage, she’s too scared to admit she knows nothing.

Lord Nicholas Chambers lives in the adjoining estate almost a hermit. He is known as a rogue. Nicknamed ‘Bed Chambers’, he does nothing to prove otherwise as he pays local barmaids to pose for his portraits.

Emma decides to visit him in the hope of learning exactly what men and women do after marriage. To save her reputation she refuses to disrobe for him, but Nicholas has a few ideas to persuade her to do more than disrobe as she learns about his expertise in the bedchamber.

Emma is a daring heroine who meets her match in the charismatic Nicholas Chambers. As their lives become entwined, neither expects to be forced apart to suit the desires of others. Danger, intrigue and a devious brother combine to make this story so interesting. The main characters risk everything for each other, making this a page turner.

The lessons on love and marriage etiquette grow ever more explicit each time she visits. Emma is pleased as she prepares her pupils for the marriage mart, so they can leave the school knowing what is expected of them in the bedroom. The plot is filled with ups and downs, laughter, and tears with some unexpected twists and turns. The hero is brought to life as a rogue, but slowly his true nature is revealed. The background characters are a mix of evil and good as the evil Uncle’s true plans are revealed the hero shows his worth. This reviewer was entranced by the story, it had so much action throughout and the sex scenes were believable. There were also some humor filled scenes, making Ms. MacMeans an author to look out for.
