Grace Eversleigh has been the companion to the dowager Duchess of Wyndham for five years. During a carriage ride, she and the Duchess are waylaid by a highwayman. Grace shares a kiss with him but the duchess recognizes him. He looks like her dead son, John. Jack Audley who was born John Rollo Augustus Cavendish never knew his parents. His mother died after his birth and his father in a shipwrecked. He was raised by William and Mary Audley from the age of two days. Jack finds his life changes irrevocably by his meeting with Grace and the duchess. If he is who the duchess believes him to be, then life will change for everyone including the Thomas, the current duke of Wyndham as well as Grace.

Grace is a wonderful heroine who readers can connect with. She has undergone her fair share of tribulations as the companion to the dowager duchess who is a demanding employer. Grace’s situation is changed by her meeting with Jack. She is very taken with him and the feeling is mutual. Jack’s attraction to Grace is apparent from the first kiss. It is an ideal coupling as they complement each other. However the path to their happily ever after is not smooth as obstacles appears. Ms. Quinn does a great job of making these two characters feel very real. Readers can empathize and sympathize what they go through in the course of the book.

THE LOST DUKE OF WYNDHAM is a first class page turner. The dialogue is crisp and witty. The characters are well-developed. There is lots of romance as well as some nicely written erotic action. Readers will be drawn into this tale of who is really the Duke of Wyndham and all the baggage that comes with the title. For Julia Quinn fans, she does not disappoint with the first of the two books in this series. This reader can’t wait to see what happens to Thomas as his story, Mr. Cavendish, I Presume will be coming out in October.
