The seventh book in Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries featuring telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse, ALL TOGETHER DEAD, is an otherworldly funny fantasy/mystery that exceeds all expectations.
In this book, Sookie attends an important vamp summit as a favor for the vampire queen of Louisiana who is being tried for murder. Since Sookie knows the queen is innocent, she puts her sleuthing skills to work while trying to combat a vampire takeover. All the while several romantic contenders vie for Sookie’s heart and the usual mayhem that follows Ms. Stackhouse wherever she goes all come along for the ride.
Once again, bestselling author Charlaine Harris proves she is a master of Southern fantasy and fun as she spins yet another suspense filled day in the life of Sookie Stackhouse. Though this book mainly deals with vampire politics, the weres do get a small storyline advantage as the lead love interest for Stookie here.
Ms. Harris manages to juggle a large cast of characters beautifully as she introduces new characters to the old gang. The way Ms. Harris keeps Sookies’ love life ever changing while keeping old loves pivotal to the stories is a joy to read and this reader imagines, quite difficult to pull off. Like all the rest of the books in this series, readers are left unsure of who Sookie will end up with and even more uncertain of just who they want her to end up with. Every character introduced is incredibly well fleshed out and integral to the story. Even Barry the Bellboy, who had a minor part in a past story, is given his turn in the spotlight here.
Fans of Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire Mysteries will no doubt be glad they picked up ALL TOGETHER DEAD. No one can mix humor, paranormal and mystery quite the way that Ms. Harris consistently seems to do. Kudos to Ms. Harris on another wonderful Stookie success.
