When Jasmine Lee and her boss Nicholas Charboneau are caught unawares in Brazil, the result is grave, indeed. Not only is Nick her employer, he is also her lover and his kidnapping leaves the self-possessed body guard desperate to find him.

Christian Delacorte owes quite a favor to the beautiful killer who once saved his life and that of the woman he loves. When the mysterious woman comes to collect he is wary of the magnitude of the request. Her revelation of a shocking secret, however, compels him to journey to Cuiabá in search of a man he has never met.

His decision and parting from Raven Mackenzie leaves him with regrets and he can only hope to have another chance with the Chicago detective. Likewise, Jasmine is driven to ensure the possibility to share the depths of her feelings for the man who saved her and has valued her for so long.

Ms Dane has a definite knack for creating fascinating personalities. In this story, she plumbs the darkness of her characters quite deftly but manages to expose facets which draw on our sympathy. This is a truly amazing feat when two of the characters are shaded as villains. One is an assassin/body guard and another has gathered power and wealth as a crime lord.

The build of suspense is particularly gripping with the difficulty of determining exactly who is friend and who is foe. Unfortunately, the actual investigative attempts and hunting down of clues seemed somewhat scattered and unlikely. Also, there were touches of paranormal aspects which were less than convincingly mixed into the story.

One should mention that the back cover description states that this is Christian Delacorte’s story, but in truth it is the story of more than one man and more than one couple. We the lucky readers get double the treat.

Barring the few reservations, NO ONE LIVES FOREVER makes a solid impact showing again, the author’s gifted storytelling. Attention to detail, basis for motivations and careful construct of the cast of individuals in integrity, eccentricity, charm and moral ambiguity makes this a compelling read.
