Mandalay can not believe she is stuck in this one-horse town. As part of her job with the hit TV show, American Megastar, she has been sent to Daily, Texas to arrange a surprise homecoming for one of the show’s finalists. Only it seems everyone in town knows why she is there. With her boss on her case and her job on the line, Mandalay must find a way to make this reunion show a huge success. And just who is that handsome guy with the unforgettable blue eyes? Is he a friend…or a foe?

A tale about a show that is just like real-life American IDOL, TALK OF THE TOWN has a great storyline and intriguing characters, but somehow it just didn’t “do it” for me. It is a good read for a stormy afternoon, but not something this reader would keep turning the pages of when the sky is blue and sun is calling my name. Maybe it is because a big part of the story is American Megastar’s finalist, Amber Anderson; after all they are in her hometown to shot her homecoming. And yet I feel they didn’t delve deep enough into the character of Amber, although they talked about her all of the time, she was really a backseat character.

This reader did however love the characters of Imagene and Donetta. They are clique of little old busy-body ladies, but have such flair, style and just enough attitude! One of the best parts of the tale is the fact that poor Imagene just couldn’t for the life of her pronounce Mandalay’s name, calling her Amanda-Lee.

Mandalay has her work cut out for her. I loved the fact that author Lisa Wingate created her character as a big city girl coming to Podunk town. It is humorous reading about her trying to blend in and not draw attention to herself. And her lodging accommodations leave more than a little bit to be desired for a city girl.

Overall, this reader enjoyed TALK OF THE TOWN. It just won’t find its place in my keeper shelf.
