The McInnes Triplets, Zoe, Fiona and Bree are always fighting, yet underneath it all; they want what is best for each other. After their father’s death, Fiona and Bree return to Spruce Lake to help Zoe clean out their father’s house. While there each of them learns something about themselves, but Zoe finds out that even in the place she has lived forever, she can meet new people, fall in love and let her guard down. Zoe fell in love once before with Derrick Tate and it ended badly. An abusive man, she had to defend herself and was arrested as his murderer. She was acquitted on self defence, but Derrick’s father, Wallace blames her. When Wallace has a stroke and his other son Gideon comes home, Zoe meets him for the first time and sparks fly.
Zoe and Gideon both come with large amounts of baggage. Neither had a great childhood, and then Gideon’s brother abused Zoe during their marriage. Both feel the attraction from the time they meet, but both fight it. Gideon comes home set to prove that Zoe had it in for his family and killed his brother and was the reason his father had a stroke. These two complex characters are definitely worthy of their own novel! The sparks between them are enough to ignite the pages and make this one of the best novels this reader has read in months.
The secondary characters in this novel also make the novel complex and filled with tears as well as smiles. The small town sheriff and Wallace Tate as villains, as well as the women and children staying at Safe Haven, Zoe’s women’s shelter are heart wrenching and made this woman want Zoe to fight for happiness. She deserves it.
Margaret Watson has proven herself to be a talented author with six previous Harlequin Super Romances under her belt, but the first novel in the McInnes Triplets may be her best work yet – and as a trilogy the next book about Bree (December 2008) might just get better.
