When Danny Benson realizes his mom is going to die and he will end up in foster care, he sets out to find the father that he never met. Danny’s father ended his
relationship with Emily Benson before she knew she was pregnant, and since she knew they were not right for each other, she never looked for him. When Danny hires, Samantha Sorrenti to find his father, she has no idea what she is doing but is compelled to help.

Chase Sullivan walked away from his family and their business years ago when he realized they might be involved in illegal activity. So when Samantha comes looking for him, he has no idea how she is connected to his past, but he is fearful of the past. He steps up to the plate and finds himself connecting with the son he has never known, and finds that Samantha is on his mind as well. When he finds out that Sam has a twin sister in the FBI and that she is investigating his past, he realizes she has to know what was really going on years ago.

Danny Benson is the main character in this novel and is from the first page comes across as a loveable kid that will make readers root for his happiness. When he wants to find his father, this reader couldn’t decide good or bad, but knew she wanted Sam to step to the plate to become his surrogate mother after Emily’s death. When Chase is found and sparks begin to fly, this reviewer knew from their first interaction that the two were perfect for each other. Both complex characters with issues from the past, they give this story a spark.

Harlequin always delivers realistic family oriented novels with their Super Romance line of books, but this novel missed its mark with this reviewer. It was simply too simple. It started out with a bang and then felt as though the realism was glossed over and the emotions were not played upon. When Emily is given six weeks to live, where are child services? Would they really allow him to go to live with a father that has had no contact with his son in twelve years? A father not listed on the birth certificate, who used a fake name years ago? When just days after his arrival in the lives of Emily and Danny the hospice being treating him as immediate family, this reader felt emotionally detached and was left wanting more.

That being said, this is a loveable novel. It has great bones, and flows smoothly. The plot holes did not stop this reader from enjoying the background, the characters and the plot. This reader was left wanting more, and will be looking for more novels from the Harlequin Super Romance Mini Series, Suddenly a Parent.
