Jolie Conrad has never had a normal family. A drug addicted mom, and then foster care have left her with emotional scars that have never healed. She played at having a family when she got pregnant by Dace Recker, but after the death of their son, she realized family living was not her forte. When she left Dace, their home and her life, she thought it was over. Jolie has returned to take a position as a hostage negotiator with her old department, never dreaming Dace was still part of the team.

Eighteen months after Jolie left him, Dace is finally getting his life back together when she reappears at the worst possible time. Entering a hostage situation, he turns to find his ex working the phone to get innocent victims out of a bank that has been held up. Dace has to find out if he can work with this woman, and how he can put his heart back on ice until the victims are safe.

Jolie and Dace are wonderful characters that bring TERMS OF SURRENDER out as one of the hottest novels in the Silhouette Romantic Suspense line. They are both strong willed and neither is without faults of their own. Jolie comes into the story as a wounded woman – first from her childhood, and then from the death of her own child, but Dace is just as faulty since he does not bother to try to find out just why Jolie is scared of a relationship. Both come together with sparks that fly, and will leave readers wanting their very own SWAT team member to cuddle up with.

Kylie Brant takes her characters for a wild ride that will leave readers breathing heavy. This is definitely a fast paced novel – the cardio workout from the stress and suspense is enough to burn calories. Ms. Brant knows how to push her story along without losing the small pieces of information that give it depth and allow a storyline to feel realistic. This woman is just glad she doesn’t live a life of drama. This novel may be great reading, but it is better left to the fiction world. Better than Cops, or CSI, TERMS OF SURRENDER is a definite hit in this reviewer’s eyes.

Thanks Angie and Gina for the reviews! I enjoyed your in depth discussion of the book.

Author copies of Terms of Engagement should be hitting my doorstep next week, so maybe you won't have to wait until January, Gina ;)

In the meantime, I invite readers to check out my website at www.kyliebrant for excerpt and cover of the next book as well as excerpts for the first two dark romantic thrillers I'll be releasing through Berkley beginning in fall of 09.
