WINTER’S DAUGHTER is the beginning of a wonderful new series from author J. C. Wilder. She introduces a town full of secrets, deceptions and a wrong that was caused so long ago to one family, cruelly torn apart by murder. This reviewer was transfixed as I started reading this first book and found myself glued to the computer screen, wondering what happens next. Ms. Wilder has a unique voice that has her characters come alive and the story delivering twists and turns that cause you to gasp out loud or giggle with glee. Ms. Wilder definitely keeps the reader caught up in a place that has multidimensional characters, a riveting plot and tight writing.

In WINTER’S DAUGHTER, you meet the family Angelov and the tragedy that befell them twenty years before. The children are separated and lost to each other until Synnamon Angelov feels the call to her childhood home many years later. Tough, independent and with a chip on her shoulder, this unlikely of heroines is a breath of fresh air and a pure delight. She is brash and determined to find the truth to her mother’s death, even if she has to deal with the memories of so long ago. With the right touch, Ms. Wilder delivers the vulnerability behind the tough façade of Synnamon and this author hints at what happened to her long ago. She delivers a complex and emotional character that strikes a chord in the reader’s heart. This reviewer was awed at the sheer courage and love that this was a woman who was going to push right back at the ones who caused her family to disintegrate long ago. Add in a hunky police chief determined to buck the age-old “Fraternity” of cops and get to the truth, you have sparks flying and love blooming. Add in some withcraft magic, evil groups determined to wipe it out and other things that fuel the flames, Ms. Wilder delivers a book full of twists and turns, edge of your seat surprises that will keep the reader dangling for more. With a climatic ending that blew this reviewer away, Ms. Wilder has got this reader anxious for the next book as she hints on what sister is next.

If you enjoy a gripping story with complex characters, evil bent on keeping secrets hidden and a story so compelling, it makes the hair stand on end on the back of your neck, then grab WINTER’S DAUGHTER and get ready to be seduced by Ms. Wilder. This reviewer is anxiously awaiting the next in the series and can not wait to see what happens next.
