The Earl of Lytham is in dire need to gain Queen Elizabeth’s favour, for his estates are in terrible financial difficulties. He has no need for a wife other than to help him with this desire. As a matter of fact, his first marriage ended in disaster and he is in no hurry for a repeat performance. Therefore he is disappointed when he greets his soon-to-be bride and discovers she is very young and very beautiful.

This reviewer felt for our heroine from the start. Marget Barnardsen only wishes to make a good match in her marriage and to help her husband. But when he presents her at court, the queen’s jealousy makes her an outcast from everyone… including her husband, The Earl. I do wish that Marget would have been pinned with a little more spirit and self-esteem, for she changes herself to try to fit an impossible mould.

A CONSTANT HEART is filled with deceit and betrayal. Just who should Marget trust? The reader is never quite sure just what is going to happen next. Author Siri Mitchelle’s gifted pen gives us an ending that is completely surprising, and it is not totally disappointing. That alone is a very good reason, although not the only one, for lovers of Historical Romance to read Ms Mitchelle’s A CONSTANT HEART. You will find many life lessons within the pages. This is a very well written and poignant story that I enjoyed very much, even though there were essences that I didn’t agree with. But alas, as it was how things were done at the time, they only make this story much more believable and realistic.
