Tessa Young is plagued with terrible nightmares. In her dreams she sees a monster in a labyrinth. During the day Tessa is a landscape architect who recreates labyrinths for her clients. When an old college friend who once betrayed her offers her a job, she just can’t refuse as it is a once in a life time opportunity to rebuild a historical labyrinth. But the land holds secrets and an assailant lays in waiting.
Along with the nightmares, it is this reviewer’s opinion that Tessa also suffers from attachment issues, but then again, I am not a psychologist. Tessa is a complex character that both intrigues and baffles this reader. She is both strong and weak, and at times seems to border on sanity and insanity. Therefore it is impossible for me to decide if I like her much. But I am sure I feel sorry for Smith Chandler, the landscaper who hires her to work with him, and who is trying to figure out just what went wrong with their friendship all those years ago during college. Seriously, the man is totally clueless. Author Kristen Keitzmann has done an amazing job penning these intense characters.
Then we have the mysterious happenings at the job site. Items are being moved, things are disappearing and no one knows who is doing it or why. That is until our lead characters are assaulted at the labyrinth site. Then the mystery is broken wide open and their lives will never be the same again.
THE EDGE OF RECALL is a good read, but not one that you can just mindlessly work your way through. It takes a bit of concentration, which is a good thing. Certainly, for many others, this book will hit the spot. But something just did not click with this reviewer upon reading THE EDGE OF RECALL. I just can’t say if I really enjoyed it or not.
