Cynthia Brightly must marry soon or she will be penniless. Taking advantage of an invitation to a house party, she plans to entice a proposal from a gentleman. Miles Redmond is also at the party. He was once spurned by Cynthia when she was the belle of the ball. However he has never forgotten her and now his prospects are much better.

This was a great story with a dazzling lead couple. Cynthia could have been another vapid heroine but she is so much more. She is a realist who knows what her fate will be if she doesn’t find a husband. Her decision is forced upon her by the time she lives in and the limited choices for women. At times, she is methodical but the reader can understand her point of view and not fault her for decisions. Miles is not your average alpha hero. At the beginning, he is sort of an intellectual nerd but his stature grows as we get to know him. He tries to do the right things and to satisfy his father while risking his personal happiness. Miles and Cynthia seem to be opposites but they make a fabulous pair. There is the physical attraction but the emotional connection is overwhelming.

LIKE NO OTHER LOVER is a winning romance from Ms. Long. It is an intriguing tale that will win readers’ hearts. The book moves at a quick pace and there is not a dull moment to be had. The romance between Miles and Cynthia is fraught with problems but there is no doubt that love will win out at the end.
