Secrets from Amalie Murray’s past led her to make the decision that she will never marry, although it is expected of her. She is content with her position as one of princess Isabel’s ladies. The moment Sir Garth Napier, a knight of the realm, enters her life, Amalie feels a strong attraction, although he infuriates her, but she doesn’t want to lose her freedom.
Garth has is own mission, he wants to discover who killed James and Will. But then he meets Amalie, when he joins the security force of Princess Isabel. Suddenly both of them are in the middle of a political intrigue that threatens their lives.
Ms. Scott is well known for her historical Scottish Romances, her books are always historically well researched and BORDER LASS is no exception. The book transports the reader back into the 14th century Scotland and with her wonderful descriptive storytelling voice you have the feeling of becoming part of the story. As always, Ms. Scott did good work with the blending of history and romance.
I had a few problems to get into the story, because of the first few chapters. It might be because I hadn’t read the first book of the series BORDER WEDDING, and some background information were missing. I recommend reading BORDER WEDDING prior to reading BORDER LASS, so you can fully enjoy the story.
Amalie is an usual character for the time period, because she is bold and brave. Garth is everything a knight should be, trustworthy, honorable and honest. They really make a perfect team.
Keep your eyes open for the next instalment of the series in January 2009, BORDER MOONLIGHT. The book tells the story of Amalie’s little sister, Sibylla.
