Duncan is a demon doing time in Heaven for his part in a foolish prank. His wily captor Uriel decides upon a plan to bedevil both the one who is in his clutches and the fallen angel father. All of the responsibility rests with beautiful Sapphira, an angel who has fought temptations all of her life.
Will our imperfect angel be enough temptation for Heaven to win over a demon, or will this be the opportunity for the lower realm to bring down yet another from lofty heights?
Ms Harte gives us further glimpses into the hierarchy of the upper and lower realms. It is great fun to see the two sides as keepers of balance instead of pure good and pure evil. The display of some uncharitable views of Uriel and his like, as well as, the loyalty and love of the demons make the characters more realistic in our view. Certainly these foibles in our more devilish characters make them quite charming.
Duncan unabashedly enjoys his role in life and makes no apologies for it. He is an earthy character that readers will have no difficulty imagining capable of swaying souls in question to the darker lot.
Our angel is an interesting matter, never having fit into her role or her world. Her difficulties are credibly drawn and she is likeable for being so imperfectly human. What a temptation our confident male is to her.
There is snappy dialogue and a fast moving story. The only problem is that the story itself is quite over-the-top with no mystery as to what will be the final outcome. Some of the subtlety in the author’s previous works is missing here. Our Heavenly beings are weighted towards hypocrisy and we, ironically, are not shown the good in them.
DUNCAN’S DESCENT is a highly erotic read and the author has a way of making readers laugh at characters’ antics and conversation between and during the fiery scenes. Fans will wish to know what fate has had in store for Duncan since we last met him in book one of the series, THE DRAGON'S DEMON.
