When Lyra Magice discovers an ancient text which may be what the Otherworld Crime Unit team needs to solve a string of disturbing murders in Necropolis, she grabs it. Unfortunately, the owner has not given permission and in fact takes issue with how it is removed from his possession. That he is a dhampir and one whom this witch had once considered losing her virginity to also complicates the situation.

Theron LeNoir’s intention is to recover the grimoire and leave changes, when with little pressure from the OCU Chief, he is recruited to help translate the symbols of the relevant passages. His hopes of mixing business with pleasure are good motivation.

The purity, vitality and power that is Lyra is an irresistible lure, but not only to Theron. Something evil wants her for a sacrifice, the result which could give new meaning to all Hell breaking loose.

The Valorian Chronicles has been an interesting series from the first with its CSI feel in a paranormal setting. With VEILED TRUTH readers get fabulous writing, strong characters, and a great story.

Perhaps it is returning to the familiarity of the team and learning a bit more of the vampire politics. Certainly, part of the appeal is discovering yet more about the paranormal beings and their world. For those who don’t know, a dhampir is the result of a mixed heritage with witch and vampire.

In the previous books, BLOOD SECRETS and DARK LIES, we have watched as ritualistic murders were investigated. In this third installment, we have that same thread, with much higher stakes.

What sets book three apart is the even greater focus on the build up of the relationship between the main characters. There is a clear sensual pull between Lyra and Theron and it is kept in play very well throughout the taught suspense going on around them.

Our heroine is defensive, defiant but personable. The hero is protective, pushing at the boundaries Lyra tries to keep between them, and a bit complicated with the background of his upbringing. Their awareness of each other does not dull. It is a good, hot romance with two people moving from sexual tension to love.

Attention is not solely on the romance but equally on the actual mystery. The latter is exciting as we follow the steps of the investigation itself. What with all of these positive things VEILED TRUTH is revealed to be a very well-rounded read. But don’t take my word for it. Grab a copy and see for yourself.

*Readers should be advised that this book may be taken as a stand alone story but has a bit more depth if the previous books in the series are read first.
