After the murder of her father, Liberty Lane is trying to make a life for herself in London. But try as she might, she cannot become the conventional young lady she wishes to be. A very fine looking young politician, Benjamin Disraeli, approaches her and asks her to use her contacts at the theatre to enquire about a certain dancer, Columbine who is notorious for her love life. He insinuates that some particular interests are at stake. But after Columbine has a fight on stage with another young, up and coming dance, she is found dead in the dressing room and the young woman is the prime suspect. Liberty finds herself wanting to find out who the real killer is as Daniel Suter, her dear friend, has a love interest in the young woman and for his sake she wants to help. Her search leads her from the lowest corners of London, to the highest circles of the ton. All the while she is wondering, just how far does one go to help a friend.

This is the second book about Liberty Lane and I for one, need to pick up the first book, A Foreign Affair, as soon as possible. I think you don’t need to know too much about the first book to enjoy A DANGEROUS AFFAIR. There is enough back story in A DANGEROUS AFFAIR to get an idea of what happened. This story had me captivated from the first page and as a lover of mysteries, I was caught up in the story and could hardly put it down until I had the last page read to find out ‘whodunnit’! I loved the heroine of this book. An independent woman who didn’t mind sticking her nose in all the right and wrong places, and of course, quickly accepted the help of her male friends when it was offered. Caro Peacock manages to masterfully blend adventure, suspense and history to keep her readers frantically turning the pages. I hope this talented author pens many more stories about Liberty Lane and eventually gives her, her own love.
