Amy Shane has a special power. Lately though, she's been having erotic dreams about a man whose face she cannot see. One night, Lucas Vanderwyck comes to her and has just enough time to explain a few things before three men burst into her room and drag him away. Amy confides in her uncle and he tells her to forget it all and go back to her life, but her life has now turned upside down and like Alice, she's dropping through the rabbit hole and it's not quite a wonderland. Amy finds out that she is one of the Offspring. They are the children of a government experiment that went bad and now the government is after them. Lucas also has special powers, as do others that she meets and has to hide out with. Amy and her new friends make a desperate attempt to save Lucas. They need all of their special powers to escape the terror the government has in store for them.

I found this a very interesting and entertaining story that certainly captured me and held me until the last page. It's exciting and adventurous as well as sensual. The relationship between Amy and Lucas is sexy and toe-curling. I enjoyed all the characters. Ms. Rush writes interesting and complex characters that are engaging and captivating. This is a good start in what looks like a promising series that I would certainly like to follow. The next book, OUT OF THE DARKNESS is due in September. I for one will be picking it up. There were a couple of things that bothered me about this story. Firstly, I had quite a few 'what?' moments and secondly, while I was reading it, I kept getting flashes of movies, like Firestarter and X-Men. I could tell that Ms. Rush must be a fan of such films. Still, I did enjoy the story and I will definitely be looking out for the next book in the series.
