Little did Eliani know that when she met the charismatic Turisan an old legend would flare to life. She knows all about the legends, the stories of two people who shared mindspeech. She always thought they were childhood stories meant to entertain, but when Eliani and Turisan discover they can actually mindspeech, the whole nation of the aelven is excited. Not so, Eliani. She’s already had one disastrous relationship and so holds herself back from Turisan, even though she feels very attracted to him. Turisan, however, has no doubts about his feelings for her. Far away, Shalár, the queen of the alben, hated and shunned by the aelven, is planning an attack to win back all that was lost. No one knows where she will strike, but with a pair who can mindspeech, the battle may be won.

This is a totally gripping story that whetted my appetite for the world that Pati Nagle has created. The characters are complex and interesting and I enjoyed the journey that Eliani and Turisan made to love. Pati Nage has created a world of elves that deals with elvish and vampire themes in a fresh new way. The plot is rich, captivating that every hard-core fantasy reader will enjoy. Here we have a conflict of two nations that will draw the reader in. Both the aelven and alben get equal place and I for one did feel a tiny bit sorry for the alben and hope that by the end of the story, they will somehow be redeemed. This looks like the first of what will certainly prove to be a very entertaining series and I plan to follow each one!
