Kelsey Howard is a woman who loves sex and isn’t afraid to admit it. She also fears commitments…give her a one-night stand and she is happy or so she thinks. She has friends, a good job bartending and lots of sex. What more can a girl want- Except love. Then Kelsey finds she has a voyeuristic neighbor watching her and it is kicking up the degrees of passion that they both never expected to feel. When Kelsey meets her mystery man in the flesh the real fun begins and this time love is determined to make Kelsey see that you don’t have to settle for something to get your heart’s desire.
MY PREROGATIVE is a highly combustible story about a woman who is not afraid to show her appreciation for sex in its many forms. Kelsey is a delightful character who strikes a cord in me as she deals with her loneliness and the stress of a pushy mom. I love the fact that Ms. White delivers characters who are flawed yet you get a sense of their emotions underneath it all and it makes you hope they find their hearts’ desire.
Meet Kelsey Howard, a bartender at the local hot spot, has great friends but something is missing. She tries to close that gap inside her with sex in all its forms. From one-night stands to performing for her neighbor. She finds herself showing Harlan the woman underneath the façade she shows everyone else, even if she doesn’t think she did. I have to say, Kelsey is a woman I want to be when I grow up. She isn’t ashamed of her life, delights in every aspect of life and isn’t afraid to admit that yes, she loves sex. Harlan is a man like no other in Kelsey’s life. He accepts every aspect of her and doesn’t try to pressure her in having a relationship and it helps that Harlan loves sex as much as Kelsey. With a kick butt attitude, Kelsey finds herself falling for Harlan, even though she is scared spitless and wonders if she is making a mistake. Ms. White delivers two characters that are combustible from the get go. With some really erotic sex scenes to some tender moments, she delivers two people who are perfect for each other yet still retain a sense of independence that they crave. With each sexual act they indulge, Harlan brings Kelsey’s inner personality out and shows her that even though she is a kick butt heroine who takes no prisoners, Harlan is her equal in every way. I loved how these two would spar and then work things out with some wild erotic sex.
MY PREROGATIVE is the first of Ms. White’s books I have read and I have to say, I want to read more. I loved the dynamics between characters, the way she made them so multi-dimensional it was like they were right there with you. Tight writing, fast paced and some really good secondary characters keep the story flowing. I look forward to reading more of Ms. White’s work and highly recommend MY PREROGATIVE if you want a hot, sexy read this summer. Just make sure the A/C is blowing or your honey is nearby. It is definitely one of those books that is outside the box.
