Casey’s no good husband has left her unemployed and broke…and pregnant. Casey applies and is hired for a job at Wyatt Keene’s photography studio but does not tell him she is expecting, afraid that he will not hire her. Especially when she learns that his late wife, his partner in the studio, was pregnant when she passed away and that he is just getting his life and business back on track. But as Casey and Wyatt grow closer she knows it is only a matter of time before her secret will have to be revealed. Then how will Wyatt react, not only to her secret, but also to the fact that she has kept it from him?
“How long can she keep her secret?” That is the million-dollar question. It is a question that I asked right along with Casey as she goes to work for and with Wyatt day after day. After all, baggy clothes will only go so far to hide an expanding pregnant tummy. So from the very first of THE BABY ALBUM author Roz Denny Fox gives us intrigue and suspense. Readers have gotta like that! I certainly did. It grabbed my attention and held it in a tight grasp.
My heart ached for both of our leading characters. Casey is in a tight spot; bills past due, pregnant and no money, no job. I can see why she kept her pregnancy a secret from a potential boss. Why take the chance that he would not hire her just to have to give her time off in a few months to have a baby? Ms. Fox does a superb job putting our leading lady in quite a dilemma.
And I felt Wyatt’s pain at the loss of his wife and unborn child. The last thing someone who has suffered such a loss would want to be around is a pregnant woman. Wyatt’s reaction surprised me. It probably wouldn’t be a reaction one would get in real life in this situation! But you will have to read the book to find out just what that is!
