Sophie Garou has successfully been able to live a pretty normal, human life while hiding her true werewolf identity. She’s successful, has a sexy new boyfriend and is beautiful. Things start getting out of hand however, when her father shows up. She hasn’t seen her father since she was a small girl. He’s in town for the Howl and to reconnect with her. Trouble is, he has been accused of murdering another werewolf and the punishment is the stake. Sophie has only a few days to prove his innocence. Added to all this excitement is the fact that her boyfriend smells of smoke and can change into a living torch and sprout wings. Plus, she is highly attracted to another werewolf, Tom, who is helping her with the investigation and is going out with her best friend.

The best thing I liked about this book was that the action started right from the first chapter and kept going to the end. It certainly kept me captive and frantically turning the pages to see what would happen next. I loved the characters and totally fell in love with the mysterious Tom. I had to discipline myself not to look at the last pages to see if Sophie ends up with him. I sure was hoping so. In this story, the suspense is high. There are a lot of old feuds being stirred up when Sophie’s father blows into town. Then there is her current boyfriend, who, although sexy, has a bit of a possessiveness problem. This talented author knows how to keep the reader on the edge of her seat. She also knows how to keep the sexual tension very high too. This is one, good, all round read and if I only had the time, I would definitely read it again. Time to look up more books from Karen MacInerney.
