Olivia Bevelstoke is informed that her new neighbor had killed his fiancĂ©e. She doesn’t believe it of course, but she is intrigued. Carefully concealing herself behind her curtains, she proceeds to watch him. After five days she realizes he is up to something for sure.

Sir Harry Valentine translates documents for the War Office. He has been trained as a spy, but does the more mundane job. He notices Olivia right away, watching him from her window. He is wondering just why she would do that. Just when he’s decided she’s nothing more than a nuisance, he is told by his boss that he needs to keep a good eye on her. She just might be involved with a Russian prince who is probably making plans against England. What he doesn’t count on is falling for Olivia himself.

I haven’t read a book by Julia Quinn for quite a while, and now I realize just what I’ve been missing. This is an absolutely delightful story with two protagonists that will get under your skin and into your heart. Olivia is a feisty woman who believes what she sees and prefers to find out for herself what is true and what isn’t. Harry, is just what she needs and the dialogue between these two is witty, lively and a joy to read. It often put a smile on my face. Ms. Quinn gives her readers wonderful secondary characters that give life and depth to the story. One in particular is very intriguing, and I am looking forward to Sebastian Grey’s story. I think there’s more to him than meets the eye. The plot is great too. Just when you think you know how it’s all going to end, Ms. Quinn throws in a twist that surprises and wonderfully leads the story to its ending. The romance is very sensuous. Ms. Quinn very slowly turns up the heat between Olivia and Harry so that I could hardly wait for the consummation. When it came, it was hot! Thank you Julia Quinn for another wonderful story. Looks like I have some catching up to do.
