Arthur, Lancelot and Gwenhwyfar. The age old story told by Cynthia Breeding shows us how these three grow up. Arthur, born through a magic spell, Lancelot who was born part-fey and Gwenhwyfar, an ambitious young woman. Arthur learns to be a soldier under the guidance of Myrddin. Lancelot’s path leads him to Arthur and Gwenhwyfar dreams of ruling Cameliard. Both Arthur and Lancelot are strong and are never short of a lover. In fact, they even start a competition between each other, as a game. In the meantime, Morgana, Arthur’s half-sister has grown up and is waiting for her opportunity to have her revenge on Uther, who seduced her mother away from her father, and Arthur, her half-brother is from this union. Although she has spent time among Christians, it’s the dark side of the pagan life that draws her.

I have read numerous stories of the Legend of King Arthur and I enjoyed this one very much. I’m a big King Arthur fan. I enjoyed how Cynthia Breeding told this story. It all seemed very real with the characters leaping off the pages. Although the magic and mystery of Avalon, The Lady of the Lake and Merlin are present, the lives of Arthur, Lancelot and Gwenhwyfar seem normal and realistic. In this story we see all the events that lead up to the coming life of Arthur as King. There was, unfortunately one thing that made me cringe, and that was the use of some words that I felt were probably not in use in this time period. But, apart from that, I enjoyed this story very much and hopefully I will get to read the next one.

THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THIS BOOK. THIS IS AN OBJECTIVE UNBIASED REVIEW.
