When Caterina Shaw learns her brain tumor is in-operable, she agrees to try an experimental gene therapy. After many days of pain and problems, she finds her life has become more terrifying than she could have possibly imagined. Accused of a murder she can’t remember committing and on the run, from the scientist who is determined to eliminate her, she meets a man who turns out to be her savior.

Mick Carrera is an expert at finding people who don’t want to be found, and he’s closing in on Caterina’s trail. What he finds is not the vicious killer he’s meant to eliminate, but a vulnerable and very sick, but still beautiful woman. Her innocent sexuality is irresistible, but he has a very large check in his pocket, plus a reputation as a man of his word to keep.

When more than one other killer has been paid to eliminate her, he begins to realize things aren’t as simple as they seem. Deciding to help her, when he finds out they are willing to kill him too, he’s drawn into the web of intrigue around the case.

The plot and settings are an integral and interesting part of this story, and the thought of what gene manipulation may do in the future, brings a touch of horror to this excellently crafted story. I wasn’t sure what to expect after reading and enjoying other books by the author, but I found this a page turner. The characters were well drawn and it gives the impression scientists could control many things in the future, if genes are manipulated in a dangerous way. It also brings up the subject of ethics, as the deaths mount and a huge cover up begins.

The hero and heroine generate a lot of very interesting sexual heat whenever they meet, and the sex scenes are hot and very, very sensual. It’s a good balance for the story, as he pretends to be a man with no heart, until the author subtly lets the reader see his gentler side.

If like me, you enjoy stories with a difference, where the paranormal joins with science to make us a little less human, you’ll enjoy this story.

THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF THIS BOOK. THIS IS AN OBJECTIVE UNBIASED REVIEW.
