Frank Behr, private investigator, is on his way to his jiu-jitsu lesson. When he arrives he sees the police are there. Going inside, he sees the dead body of his mentor Aurelio Santos. Frank wants answers, but before he can get on the case, a private investigation firm contacts him to search for two of their missing investigators. Behr is persuaded to take the case. The case takes him into the lowest spheres of society where violence reigns. The trail leads to a family, bent on taking over the rule of the ‘pea-shake’ houses. A family that stops at nothing, not even killing, to get what they want. And while Frank is looking for the missing investigators, he finds the answers he’s looking for about his friend’s death.

When you pick up this book, get yourself nice and settled, your favourite beverage next to you, and prepare for a thriller that will reach into your very soul. Frank Behr is a sympathetic character who is an ex-cop. He’s a hardened, tough guy who knows how to do his job. David Levien writes characters that are real and leap off the pages. He infuses his story with emotions that are deep and true. This is a fast-paced, hard-edge story that will grip you and hold you captive until the last page. The antagonists are a family that will haunt you long after the book is read. I want to read more from this talented author and Mr. Levien is certainly on my to buy list. If you love crimes stories that are tough and gut-wrenching, then this is the author for you.
