After spending seven years as a captive in the colonies, Reynard St. Aubyn, Viscount Hope, returns sick with fever and looking like a wild man. He is scarred inside and out. With his unfashionably long hair, face hidden by whiskers and a tattoo above his eye, he no longer looks anything like his portrait in the sitting room. Thought to have been murdered, his lands, money and title have been taken by another, but Reynard is determined to take it all back.

Beatrice Corning and her Uncle Reggie, the present earl, live in the house, and Reggie has no intention of giving up his status. Beatrice spent many long hours in front of Reynard’s portrait wishing he was still alive, now she’s shocked to find her wishes have come true.

His eyes are no longer full of fun, but filled with the horrors he’s seen. Beatrice champions his cause, wanting the carefree man in the portrait to come back. Despite his rough exterior, she believes there’s a part of him that is good, but politics plus Uncle Reggie’s interfering, may over-ride any plans they make.

This is a story told with a magical flair as the characters stop following the conventions of the time and instead follow their hearts.

The heroine is no wilting violet, and vexes the hero on many layers, as she tries to hide her true feelings. Reynard finds her irresistible and shows her he is determined to seduce her, no matter what the conventions say. The love scenes sizzle as they discover the connection between them growing, and Beatrice slowly gets him to open up about his years in captivity.

This is a tale of dark emotions, mixed with witty comments as suspense, treachery and desire collide. The romance is set in a time when women rarely spoke up or involved themselves in politics, making this tale far more interesting as Beatrice has her own agenda to fulfill.

When murder, kidnapping and attempted murder are twined around sensual love scenes, it shows how cleverly the writer has planned her delightful plot.

TO DESIRE A DEVIL is a delightfully different romance with interesting protagonists and hot sex scenes that could set the pages alight, it’s so sensual.
