The Offspring are in danger and it is up to a select few to save them from death. Rand Brandenburg joined the Offspring as he can see the future and his gifts can get him killed. In hiding with many other Offspring, he finds himself drawn to Zoë Stoker, a woman who has her own secrets to keep. Zoe can’t keep her power under control as it goes out the window as she experiences emotions. So she closes herself down emotionally and tries to live quietly until Rand slips past her defenses and steals her heart. Can they stay alive long enough to see where their hearts will take them?
OUT OF THE DARKNESS is a thrilling, action packed ride from start to finish. Ms. Rush just keeps getting better with each book in her Offspring series. The first book, A Perfect Darkness introduced the reader to the world of the Offspring and the evil that is trying to either destroy them or worse, use them for their evil purposes. The characters fly off the pages with Rand & Zoë keeping me captivated. Well rounded secondary characters keep the story flowing smoothly as the plot weaves its spell around you. It had a bit more action than romance but it was a delightful compromise in my opinion. Ms. Rush is a masterful storyteller who keeps the reader guessing as they flip the pages to the next to see what will happen next.
In OUT OF THE DARKNESS we meet Zoë and Rand, two more of the Offspring, children of psychic parents that were involved in a government experiment. Now hunted by an enemy that wants to exterminate them or use them for their own nefarious purposes, the Offspring are finding their world has changed as they find others with abilities like their own. Zoë is a touch, strong female heroine and I loved that she wasn’t without faults. She resonated with me in many ways and I felt the author really got into the core of who Zoë was and is within the pages. Rand was a strong alpha male, a loner until he finds himself with the offspring camp, trying to resist feisty Zoë. These two are perfect for one another. Rand is strong yet when he is around Zoë, he shows a softness that had me going “Awww”. Zoe is a woman who doesn’t let her emotions take control yet Rand steals her heart without her knowing. It was a great to see how these two mesh so well together even as they fight to stay alive. The wonderful secondary characters had me hoping they get their own stories in the future. This was a well rounded character driven story that will steal your heart.
OUT OF THE DARKNESS is a book you can not put down. Ms. Rush keeps the tension on high even as she continues to throw twists and turns to keep your interest peaked. What I enjoyed about this series is that Ms. Rush doesn’t give you all pat answers right away; she keeps some for future books and leaves you begging for more. If you enjoy a new dark paranormal romance, then grab the Offspring series. I highly recommend you read the first book first, A Perfect Darkness, in order to get back-story information and who the main characters are. Run; don’t walk to grab this and settle in for a pulse pounding ride.
