Gem Sivad was an unknown author to this reader when WOLF’S TENDER was picked up for review. It is unlikely that Ms. Sivad will stay an unknown much longer if this well written romantic western is any indication of her writing talent. The characters in this book are an unlikely pair for sure. Naomi is trying to better her life when she takes a job as a schoolteacher in the Wild West. She had planned to teach her charges how to be proper ladies. But when her charges are kidnapped while she hides, her conscious won’t allow her any alternative but to find a way to get them back. It is that strong backbone that finds her offering up her virtue in return for the dark and dangerous half-Indian bounty hunter’s services. Charlie Wolf McCallister probably never expected to end up with a spinster schoolmarm. But when she propositions him after a long spell without womanly companionship, he finds himself sharing his bath with her and a perilous journey across the frontier to save her girls. The sparks these two incredibly different yet similarly determined and independent characters generate, heat the story from the moment they meet. Both are more than they first appear and those unexpected surprises keep the story speeding along from one exciting scene to the next.

Gem Sivad is a talented storyteller. WOLF’S TENDER is sure to please western romance fans with its strong characters and their endearing love story. This reader cannot wait to read the next book in the Bounty Hunter series, when one of Charlie’s two fellow bounty hunting cousins falls prey to a romance of his own. Let’s hope that his mate is just as much a pleasant surprise as Naomi was for Charlie.
