Rosalie is a Guardian. She is kind-hearted and at the same time, manipulative. She has a plan to free the Vampires from Demons, but she needs the help of a special vampire. One who she has, unbeknownst to him, been helping. Deacon once betrayed his friends in an attempt to save his community. An attempt that failed horribly. Now, feeling that he is no longer of any use to any one, he is bent on only one thing, revenge. So, he spends his time hunting down demons and killing them. Then Rosalie comes to him and cleverly persuades him to join her cause. As long as it involves killing Demons, it’s all right with him. Their attraction flares, but both feel unworthy to receive love. When finally Rosalie admits her love for him, he doesn’t believe her and feels it’s another way for her to acquire his help. But Rosalie sees the big picture and what she has in store for them could kill them both.

This is a wow of a story. I haven’t read any of the books before this one and I believe this is the sixth Guardian book. I was able to follow the story quite well and was immediately captured. This is a page-turning romantic story about two vulnerable people who have to work together for the better of man and vampire kind. I will definitely pick up the other books as soon as possible. Ms. Brooks’ characters just jump off the pages. Deacon, although you’ll want to hit him over the head sometimes is a hero who really needs someone like Rosalie to save him. Ms Brooks really dives into their psyches and there is a lot of emotion. The sexual tension between them is palpable and the sex scenes hot and sensual. There are a lot of secondary characters that I am sure appeared in other books, that I enjoyed and they gave the story life, depth and some comic relief. This is a dark tale that I thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely read again. Now that I’ve popped my Meljean Brooks cherry, I am now a hard-core fan of this awesome author.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.

I haven't read anything by this author before, but it's always such a treat to be introduced to a new series. This sounds right up my alley!
