Reese agrees expecting to win like always and ends up finding himself disarmed by the shy but intense Jeff, the man Hank picked out. Before Reese could assimilate the feelings Jeff invokes inside him, he falls for Jeff and begins an unraveling of lies, secrets and jealousy that will derail Reese’s romance with Jeff. Can Reese and Jeff walk out of this with their hearts whole or will they shatter after the betrayal is known?
WICKED HEARTS is a story of cruel bets, power, sex and redemption. Ms. Thompson delivers a story where in the beginning; the reader is turned off by the main characters of Reese and Hank. I swore I wasn’t going to read any more but I was sucked into the story and just had to find out what happens next for Reese and Jeff. Ms. Thompson creates memorable characters and delivers a story that will leave you aching for more.
In WICKED HEARTS, we meet Reese and Hank, friends and sometimes lovers from the past twelve years. Both had awful childhoods and both are complicated characters. They are two people, in the beginning, you never want to meet or can sympathize with. That is until the story moves along and we find some redeeming qualities inside Reese that had this reader intrigued. Here we have a man finally grown up, take responsibility for his actions and feel the guilt for duping Jeff in the beginning, especially as he gets to know Jeff and finds him a wonderful man-one he is falling in love with. Hank on the other hand is one of those villains you love to hate. He had no redeeming qualities and always managed to annoy me, especially as he tries to break Reese and Jeff apart in his jealousy. These two together are interesting but as they evolve in the story, the reader begins to see the vulnerabilities inside Reese and Jeff while you hate Hank for his negative traits. There were some interesting secondary characters that kept the story flowing smoothly and the writing was very tight.
WICKED HEARTS is not for the faint of heart. It has characters that really are awful in the beginning but in the end, one sees the error of his ways and finds a love worth fighting for. Ms. Thompson is a masterful storyteller who can create some interesting characters, toss in a few twists and leave the reader wishing for just one more page. I loved the way Reese evolved into a caring human being, one with feelings and a conscience. It made the story very believable and the ending will leave you more than satisfied. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Have you read the sequel, Safe in His Arms? I would NOT have believed that she could make me care about Hank... but she did.
