The first two books in Thomas E. Sniegoski’s The Fallen series, THE FALLEN & LEVIATHAN are young adult stories of angels, redemption, power, heaven and what happens when an ordinary teenager finds himself smack in the middle of it all.

When Aaron turned eighteen, he began to understand foreign languages and found he was able to speak with animals and understand them. Naturally, he thought he was going insane. Then Aaron meets a bum in the park who seems to know what is happening to Aaron. He tells him that Aaron is the son of a mortal woman and an angel and he has been chosen to redeem the Fallen angels. Although Aaron would like to dismiss the bum, strange things start happening. Aaron must learn to control his new powers before the dark powers destroy him and all hope of saving the Fallen angels and mankind from destruction.

Originally released as two separate books in 2003, the first two of Sniegoski’s Fallen books, THE FALLEN & LEVIATHAN have been re-released by Simon Pulse’s young adult books as one megabook, THE FALLEN Book 1. Sniegoski’s writing style is mysterious and entertaining with just a hint of humor (how else could you explain a talking dog?). Written from the perspective of a teenage boy who has just come into some really unusual powers, readers learn alongside Aaron what is going on with his quest for the redemption of heaven’s fallen angels. The characters Aaron meets along the way are fantastical and leap from the page. Aaron’s dog, Gabe, is surprisingly a strong character throughout both books and really adds to the story. The storyline itself moves at a nice clip, revealing bits and pieces as Aaron discovers them himself.

The Young Adult genre is exploding lately with terrific stories that readers of all ages will thoroughly enjoy. Thomas Sniegoski’s Fallen series, now that the books are being sold two stories to a book, is a great buy for the price and the perfect way to delve into a world of fantastical beings and the ultimate battle of good versus evil. This reader has already picked up the next two-book megabook, THE FALLEN 2: AERIE & RECKONING and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Aaron, his dog and the Fallen.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
