Guest Author Day with Berengaria Brown/CONTEST

CONTEST: Comment to be entered to win either a promo goodie bag or a copy of one of Berengaria's backlisted titles, winner's choice. Contest ends Sept. 30th and please make sure your email address is included in post so we can notify you if you have won.

To get us started can you tell us a little about what you are working on or have coming out?

I have just had two books come out in September, “Complexity” with Siren BookStrand and “Loving Lydia” with Breathless Press. Complexity is an MMF ménage, contemporary set with a ghost, and in the same world as “Intensity”. “Loving Lydia is a contemporary lesbian erotica. My next release will be 30 October and that is an MM werewolf Halloween story, “Dogged Pursuit” releasing from Torquere.

What makes a book great in your eyes?

I have to care about the characters. I need to really want them to have their happy ending. Typos and plot holes are annoying, but if I really care about the characters, I’ll keep reading.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?

Well, it used to be reading erotic romances, but that is practically mainstream now! I do adore chocolate.

Name one thing readers would be surprised to know about you.

I am a very boring, ordinary person. With a day job.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I once vacationed on Hawaii. I’d love to go back there. It has everything, mountains beaches, friendly people, a good climate.

What authors are on your virtual or literal keeper shelf?

For historicals I love Georgette Heyer. For erotica, I am addicted to Jaid Black. I have kept all JK Rowling’s books. I have all Anny Cook’s Mystic Valley series and I love Amarinda Jones’s books too. Her snarky smart-ass heroines make me laugh. Norah Roberts, Jennifer Crusie, Roberta Gellis. I have a LOT of books!

If someone hasn't read any of your work, what book would you recommend that they start with and why?

I would like to think my books are getting better as I write more and have my editors to help me grow and develop. But since “Complexity” is in the same world as “Intensity” it is probably better to start with “Intensity” and get a feel for the world, then read “Complexity”. The stories are totally standalone, but the world is likely described more clearly in “Intensity”.

If there was a soundtrack to your latest novel, what genre/songs would be included?

Peaceful background sounds, rainforest noises, waterfalls, birdsong.

Which of your characters would you most likely fall for if they were real?

One? I’m only allowed to have one? Can’t I have two? Or maybe three or four?? I write MMF ménage after all!

Besides the bedroom, what's the sexiest part of your home in your opinion and why?

The sofa, where I can cuddle up with a lover and…..

What are you working on now?

The downside of having several books come out in quick succession, is that the edits happen that way too. Lately I have been busy with edits. The book I’m writing has stalled at the moment so I’m waiting for the characters to start talking to me again.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

I have always seen myself as a reader first, but having that first book contract made me realize that I was officially a writer now.

What inspired you to write your first book?

I started writing what I thought was Keziah’s story. She’s an independent woman who wanted to make her own way in life. Amos and Wesley were determined to keep her in their bed until she understood how much they wanted her to be a part of their life. But the ghost just swept into the book and took over! From then on, he directed the story.

Do you have a specific writing style?

I think about the book for a while first. When the characters are settled in my head, and I have a vague plot outline, the characters tell me to start typing and it happens from there.

How did you come up with the title?

My titles seem to follow a theme and they come to me as I’m writing. Some of my books include a hero or heroine’s name in the title as it is their story: “Huldah’s Two Hikers”, “Loving Lydia”. “Intensity” is about the quality of the passion between those three characters, and “Complexity” is a description of Tia, the heroine’s, life in that book. “Dinner Delights” is set a dinner party and “Carnal Connections” is what happens after a wedding. So, in every case, the title is a reflection of what’s happening in the book.

Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?

All my characters are ordinary people. Each heroine has a flaw: Tia has asthma, Huldah is very tall, Keziah is extremely independent, Talitha is overweight. Yet each finds her own happily ever after. Everyone, no matter what their flaws, is entitled to happiness.

How much of the book is realistic?

Most of my books are contemporary set, in the real world. The characters are real people, with hopes, ambitions, flaws.

“Complexity”, available from SirenBookstrand:
Complexity buy link:  http://www.bookstrand.com/complexity

An asthmatic unwilling to relax enough to enjoy life, two men hell-bent on putting their stamp on her, an embezzler who wants to keep what he has stolen, and the ghost of a murdered girl.
Will an endless night of passion with Finn and Simeon be pure pleasure, or only make Tia’s life more complex and messy than it already is?
Tia agrees to a night of unbelievably hot sex with Finn and Simeon, and is beginning to think she may have a future with them. Especially when the ghost makes her realize that her asthma is not nearly as bad as it used to be.
But the two men are so protective they don’t want her to help the ghost. And Tia never breaks her promises. Will frequent acrobatic sex be a solution or just add to the complexity?

“Loving Lydia” available from Breathless Press

Tammy's sights are set and goals targeted. With one thing on her mind - Lydia - she will stop at nothing to satisfy every craving her body has for the seductive female, including showing up at the same gym for a chance encounter.
Lydia's career is in her pocket. Successful, motivated, and driven, Lydia realizes she wants more out of life than just her job. Aware of Tammy's intentions, Lydia decides to play along, at least until a cup of steaming hot coffee turns into a passionate night. Can she split her life between her career and Tammy?
Will Tammy be able to quench her thirst for Lydia with one night of hot sex, or will she be left wanting more?
Excerpt-
Tammy’s heart clenched at the succulent picture Lydia made, her soft golden-blonde hair looking very pretty against the bright yellow shirt. She gulped.
"Sounds good." She dragged in another deep breath. "Meet you at the coffee shop across the street in, say, half an hour then?"
"Yeah, that’ll be good." Lydia slid her cell phone back into her pocket and increased the speed of her bike.
Tammy tried to concentrate on her own work-out, but her eyes slid over to the delicious picture her neighbor made, with just the slightest sheen of sweat on her face, her legs pumping the bike pedals.
Her face will look just like that as we make love—that glow of perspiration, the smile in her eyes. But her attention will be focused on me as I bring her to one orgasm after another. I wonder if her pussy is bare or if she has blonde curls for me to run my fingers through as I search out her clit to stroke it. Her skin is fair and soft. I bet her nipples will be pink rather than brown. But in my mouth, they’ll soon turn hard and red as I suck her closer and closer to exploding. And then I’ll—
Tammy brought her mind back to the present as cream dripped from her cunt, dampening her panties. Lucky I was planning to have a shower and change my underwear!
Tammy watched as Lydia slid off her bike, smiled at her, and wandered over to the weights to do the next part of her program. She’d first noticed Lydia a couple of months ago, and the attraction had been instant and all-consuming. Lydia was very organized and followed a routine. Unlike Lydia, Tammy didn’t have a set program. She just did whatever she felt like and right now what she wanted to do was watch Lydia, so she stayed on the bike.
It was easy for her to come to the gym a couple of times a week when she knew Lydia would be there, hoping she could get to know her better.
And the more she learned about the woman, the more she ached to hold her in her arms and make love to her. And now, finally, they were going to have a coffee together. Awesome!
