Bernadette Hogan is a good girl who doesn’t like to make mistakes, especially as she has a lot of responsibility from her personal and professional life. That is until one night; she threw caution to the wind and slept with her boss. Bernadette didn’t anticipate getting pregnant from that one night stand. Now Jeremy Bridges has to convince Bernadette he wants a life with her, not because of the baby but because she makes him laugh, drives him nuts and intrigues him on every level. Can these two stubborn people find a way to have a life together or will it all be for nothing?

I’ve never read anything by this author before and wasn’t sure what to expect, of BLACK TIES AND LULLABIES when I first started it. I was pleasantly surprised to find a charming, funny story about two people who are perfect for one another. I liked how there was comedy moments to lighten up the storyline a bit. It wasn’t a “Boy and girl meet, have sex, girl gets pregnant” sort of heavy storyline. It was light, fun and had a cast of characters that had me grinning at times, as I rooted for Bernadette and Jeremy to work things out. What I really liked about this was the heroine, Bernadette, was a strong, capable woman who didn’t need a man in her life…until she falls for her boss that is. The characters are multi-dimensional, fairly brim with life and I could actually see being friends with them in real life. The secondary cast of characters kept the storyline flowing smoothly and there were a few I would love to see more of in the future.

Meet Bernadette, a woman w ho is independent, tries to make no mistakes in life as she has a lot of responsibility-be it caring for her mom or in her professional life. That one night with her boss leaves her feeling confused, intrigued and oh so very pregnant. Can Bernadette find a way to incorporate Jeremy in her life while falling in love with the exasperating man?

Jeremy Bridges loves women and when he finds himself intrigued by Bernadette, he finds much more than he’d bargained for. This isn’t a woman to be casually tossed aside. Jeremy is willing to change to be a one-woman man, but can he convince Bernadette he means it, and will be there for her…forever? These two characters are a riot together. Jeremy is one hot man and though I wanted to smack him silly in the beginning, he really turns around and begins to woo the fiercely independent Bernadette, with a fever that had me rooting for him to get his woman. Bernadette at times can be a little annoying-especially as she tried to stay away from Jeremy, with no such luck. What I loved the most about these two were the way Bernadette made Jeremy laugh and challenged him. It gave the story a bit more depth as Jeremy tried to win the woman he was meant to be with. Ms. Graves does a great job in creating a cast of characters that readers can relate to.

BLACK TIES AND LULLABIES is a fast paced story that will suck the reader in until the very end. If you enjoy a sassy heroine, a hero determined to show her he has changed and you get the makings of a story that will completely charm you. I am eager to see what other stories this author has in her backlist and look forward to more fun, entertaining stories in the future.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
