In an easy to read, completely relatable book, Renee Baron, author of WHAT TYPE AM I? and co-author of THE ENGRAM MADE EASY, presents readers with another insightful book with her latest book, OPPOSITES ATTRACT. Based on the well known Myers-Briggs inventory, she actually goes beyond the issues of a couple trying to find common ground. She opens the door for the reader to experience some of his or her own self-discovery.
As a counselor myself I am familiar with the Myers-Briggs and its more complex components, OPPOSITES ATTRACT is not only an easy read for the average lay person; it’s a great quick resource for a practicing therapist and marvelous tool for working with couples in transition. In a logical, easy to follow pattern she presents four quizzes for readers to define which type they are: Extravert (yes, that is how she spells it!)/Introvert; Sensor/Intuitive; Thinker/Feeler and Judger/Perceiver. Aside from the ten questions at the beginning of each of the four sections she also presents a listing of “you might be a ____ ” with examples of behaviors indicative of each type. She then discusses how each category fits in both work and relationships. Lastly she offers suggestions on how opposite types can work together to have a harmonious relationship. These are not simply give and take examples but concrete suggestions that realistically, any couple can benefit from. Interspersed throughout the book are some fun cartoons.
I picked up the book, read it, did the quizzes and made some notes for myself over a day’s time. Even if you have a perfect work life and fabulous relationship, this is definitely something to check out. You can read it through, as I did, in a day and then refer back and digest the ideas and suggestions.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
