Divorce attorney Harper James has a well paid job, her own home close to the sea, her dog and Dennis her fireman boyfriend, who’s hot to look at. Somehow she doesn’t feel complete. Harper decides her internal clock is ticking and it’s time to get married, but realizes she’s not in love with Dennis, but he’ll do.
When her younger sister Willa, gets engaged and organizes a wedding, Harper is shocked…she is marrying her ex-husband’s brother, Christian Lowery.
Nick Lowery is going to be best man and Harper has no idea how she’ll handle it, but she can’t let Willa down. After the wedding she has to accept a lift from Nick. The planes were down, this of course meant close encounters, very close.
I enjoyed most of the story, but there seemed to be a lot of repeat sentences which made it boring in places. The characters were an odd bunch and they all seemed to have relationship issues, which became almost a theme. The road trip was the most enjoyable part of the book.
Nick was hung up on parent issues, Harper was totally unsure of herself and her sister changed husbands a lot. BeverLee the step-mum was always bursting into tears and her husband seemed to have a problem putting more than two words together. The characters seemed a bit simple most of the time, as they dithered over things so much.
Ms. Higgins idea was great and some parts were funny but not enough for me to laugh at. So if you like tales that are heartwarming in parts but sometimes annoying enough to want to shake the characters into being sensible, this is an ideal tale.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
