As a veteran smoke jumper, Rowan Tripp knows how dangerous her job can be but being a smoke jumper is in her blood. Her father was one and was a legend in the business. But it doesn’t come without danger either. Losing her partner last year left her shaken but with a new crop of smoke jumpers, Rowan is determined to put the past behind her. Unfortunately someone out there doesn’t want her to and is determined to make her pay for her partners death-anyway they can. Can she rely on a sexy hot shot fire fighter named Gull who stirs all her senses and feelings? Will she be able to stay alive long enough to find out who is out to get her and why before her life is consumed by the flames she fights?

You know what I love about Nora Roberts? She delivers a heart pounding ride with her books. I loved how this latest release captured the dangers of being a smoke jumper and she captured their entire lifestyle perfectly, in my opinion. With each page, the reader is drawn into the world of being a smoke jumper. It was heavily researched as the reader could tell but I felt it made the book much stronger in whole. The characters are quite vivid and complex which nobody can do better than Nora Roberts. The storyline did start off slow as we get introduced with the main characters and the back-story of Rowan but once we got over that hurdle, it was smooth sailing until the climatic ending.

Rowan Tripp was a great character. She was feisty, independent and knew when to ask for help. The relationship between Rowan and Gull starts off sweet and shows that you can never be too old for love. The best part was the camaraderie between the smoke jumpers. That is what made the book the most interesting. It was like you were right there alongside them as they talked about their missions, fighting the fires and relaxing afterwards as they see they are alive for another day. The sparks between Rowan and Gull smolder throughout the story and I enjoyed their connection.

CHASING FIRE is an action packed, explosive suspense story that will leave you breathless till the very end. If you are looking for a new story to enjoy then I suggest you pick this romantic suspense up in a heartbeat. I cannot wait to read this one again while lazing in a hammock or by the beach. It’s a perfect beach read in my opinion. Nora Roberts has done it again and I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for her readers in the future.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.

really enjoy reading Nora Roberts. I used to fight fire on engine crews so I could tell she really did her homework before writing this book, and I appreciated the "real" to the book. It really told the story of comradere that goes with being on the fire line. The romance mixed in was fun and as always the suspense kept me thinking.
