Jenny Jameson has never forgotten the merboy, Perrin and as she grew up, they met frequently in their dreams, talking about everything and anything. A marine biologist now, Jenny finds that she enjoys her job as she charts her own course through life and away from her family. Until Perrin shows up, grown up and sends desire racing through her veins. Now Jenny is drawn into the mystery of a murdered mermaid and in the course finds herself falling for Perrin. Can Jenny and Perrin find a way to solve this puzzling mystery before the world as they know it will be forever gone?

Marjorie M. Liu is a talented writer who knows how to completely captivate her readers. With her Dirk and Steele series, she delivers so many different paranormal creatures to enjoy that it’s hard to pick just one book to call my favorite. She has a wide variety of characters that populate the series and I am always eager to see a glimpse into their world with each book. The characters are well written, multi-dimensional and very unique. Each character I meet in the books leaves a lasting impression on me and I am always eager to see if they will show up in future books. What makes IN THE DARK OF DREAMS so good is that the reader sees how rough it is for Jenny and Perrin in real life. Both were indescribably changed due to their hard lives and it changed them into who they are as an adult. The reader gets to experience it alongside them and I think this made the story much stronger because of that back-story woven in.

What I really liked was how Jenny and Perrin’s relationship deepened over time and the sparks when they first physically meet are smoldering. The reader can feel the sexual tension wind its way around these two people as they finally lay eyes on one another in the flesh. They connect on all levels in this latest book and I found myself falling in love with them. Ms. Liu is a wonderful storyteller who has a magical way with words. She weaves strong stories around her readers and as they get drawn into her worlds, they find themselves falling in love with her writing and books. IN THE DARK OF DREAMS is at times, a tender love story, an action-packed mystery and pure entertainment. I couldn’t put it down. If you haven’t picked up one of this series books, what are you waiting for? I do have to mention you can read these out of order as all books in the Dirk & Steele series are able to be read as standalone titles.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
