Artur Loginov has an unusual gift. With just a touch he knows everything. It’s a gift that can drive him crazy and he has to wear gloves so as to protect him from a myriad of thoughts and feelings. Still, he is a valuable member of Dirk and Steele which is a detective agency who helps gifted people in need.

Then he is taken and finds himself in a place where he is imprisoned, tortured and experimented on. Then, he meets Elena. A woman with her own special gift. She is also a prisoner and when she meets Artur a very special bond is formed between them. But is this enough to get them out of this situation and back to safety? They could not only lose their hearts, but also their lives.

I really enjoyed this story. Ms. Liu writes an emotional, believable story with characters that are normal and scarred. You won’t find a strong alpha hero here but a tortured soul. The heroine also struggles to find the strength for the tasks ahead and this is what endears them to the reader. The plot is tight, fast moving and had me turning the pages to find out what would happen at the end. The paranormal elements were believable and enjoyed the mixing of the different elements and some new ones too. I have found out that there are more books about the Dirk and Steele agency and they are now solidly on my to-buy list! I do have a couple of Ms Liu’s books on my shelf but haven’t gotten around to reading them yet, but now I think I will have to bump them up to the front of the to-read pile!

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
