Elena Deveraux, vampire hunter and Raphael, archangel have returned to New York hoping to have some quiet time alone. But an evil awaits them. It seems that vampires are being overtaken with bloodlust, the weather is going crazy and attacks on innocents are piling up. Even some of the angels are showing signs of losing it and falling prey to an uncontrollable rage. All signs point to a powerful immortal awakening and it is none other than Caliane, Raphael’s mother who had gone insane. Trouble is, will she awake insane and need killing or is there hope that she will arise sane. It seems she wants to reclaim her son, but Elena, Raphael’s consort is in the way and her life is in danger. Elena wants to go back to her Guild Hunter duties and also, needs to cope with everyone’s surprise at her wings, for she is now an angel herself.

I really loved this book and couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately, one has to sleep and I spent two nights reading into the early morning. I must also admit I have a few of Nalini Singh’s books on my shelf, but I haven’t yet picked them up to read. After reading this one though, I must remedy that as soon as possible. I love how Ms. Singh writes. She infuses such emotions between her characters it almost hurts and they are so multi-dimensional. Raphael is awesome. Elena, as a newly-made angel has all kinds of new things to learn and experience. Together they make a great team but it’s not all roses either. They both have a lot to learn about each other. The love scenes are sensual, tender, romantic and again, so emotional. I kept getting the goose bumps while reading. This is a powerful, captivating story that you will want to read in one sitting. Beware, or you will like me, be wanting her whole backlist!

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
