The world changed after a cataclysm event and now part of the United States is called New Bloodlands…until the vampires came there and then it was known as simply ‘Bloodlands’. Now a mysterious stranger has shown up in the Bloodlands and danger is at an all time high as mysterious deaths seem to follow him. Will the Bloodlands soak up this stranger’s blood? What exactly is he hiding?

BLOODLANDS is Christine Cody’s introduction to a genre mixed with Old West and Paranormal lore. Full of intriguing characters, the author delivers a strong introduction into the Bloodlands. The mixture of this theme and extensive world building by the author helped make this one intriguing story. The author does a great job in crafting a story full of intriguing characters, adventure and mystery all mixed together with a big bow. The only complaint I had was there was times where I flipped the pages quickly because it felt like it was a rehashing of items told in pages before but it was only a few times this was done.

Gabriel is a vampire looking for his friend, Annie/Abby. She is the only one who can make him feel his humanity again…until he stumbles upon a small community where there are secrets abound, a mysterious beauty and danger at all levels. Gabriel is an intriguing character. One I was wondering about since the minute he came onto the pages. A vampire, he searches for his lost friend all the while falling for the mysterious Mariah who keeps him aching in more ways than one. The byplay between these two is full of sexual tension as Mariah finds herself wanting Gabriel even as she struggles to figure him-and his secrets-out. Add in a bad guy named Stamp determined to claim the community Mariah and her friends have built as well as some mysterious deaths, well you got the pickings for an edge of the seat ride from start to finish.

BLOODLANDS is a new twist on an old tired genre with Ms. Cody’s breath of fresh air to help make it new again. With the right amount of intrigue, fast paced storyline & danger, the reader’s taken on a thrill ride till the very end. I caution you to let yourself have a few hours of free time to read this as it will suck you in after the first few chapters. I look forward to the next books in the series to see how everyone is doing and what else awaits Mariah, Gabriel and their friends in Bloodlands.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement.
