A series of murders makes humans, vampires and werewolves uneasy as it could shatter the fragile peace all three factions have between them. Keeli Maddox is determined to find the answers to the murders if her and her family is to survive. In order to do that she has to trust the one person that should be her enemy-Michael, a slayer and one man who turns her inside out. But in order to find the answers Keeli must trust Michael with her life as well as her heart for danger looms and desire blooms.
This is the second book in a multi-author series set around fictional Crimson City. You can read this as a stand alone title though I recommend reading from the beginning of the series (CRIMSON CITY by Liz Maverick) as there is some moments from the first book mentioned here and it is very action packed; just what I love my paranormal stories to be. Ms. Liu is a talented storyteller and one I enjoy immensely each time I pick up one of her books. With the right amount of action, sexual tension and mystery, the author pulls her readers in and takes them on one wild ride from start to finish. The characters are well written, the story fast paced and the simmering sexual tension between Keeli and Michael is hot.
Keeli is a kick butt heroine. She doesn’t take any crap from anyone especially since she is the granddaughter to the werewolf clan leader. Michael is a rogue vampire, a slayer who goes after vampires who metes out the justice to those who cross the laws of the vampires. Both characters have issues and it was nice to see how, even though they are attracted to one another, work out how to stay together in the end. I loved how this author can put the most unlikely of people together, in this case vampire and werewolf-mortal enemies, and find common ground for them to come together. Keeli is feisty and a woman who I enjoyed immensely. I love heroines who are alpha’s in their own right. Michael is the strong silent type, trying to make up for wrongs that happened when he was a young vampire and scorned by his kind from that time. These two are a perfect pair. I love it when two main characters fit perfectly and sparks fly all over the place whenever they are on the page together.
A TASTE OF CRIMSON is a fun, action packed ride that I recommend you grab to read. It will leave you breathless in the end. I can’t wait to explore the rest of this series with authors Liz Maverick & Jade Lee as Crimson City steals my imagination. Run-don’t walk-to grab this and any other Marjorie M. Liu novel…her stories pack quite a punch and leave you eager for more.
This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
