Melanie separated from her controlling ex-husband, Victor, took her daughter and set up a sustainable living community in the desert. Her life is very busy but they’re happy.

Griffith works for a giant pharmaceutical company retrieving stolen and missing items. Melanie’s ex-husband has stolen a very expensive new drug. Griffith goes looking for Melanie to try to track her ex through her.

The concept of Melanie’s new life is quite interesting and we’re given a few quick tastes of it, and also a glimpse of some of the people in the community. There’s also a smattering of drama and adventure, a fast car, a cute kid, a look at the villain, and a vivid picture of the climate and landscape.

The book centers around the two main characters, which is only to be expected in such a short length, (under 14000 words). Their back stories and motivations are sketched in as are their feelings, before, during and after meeting each other. There are two brief but hot one-man-one-woman vanilla sex scenes.

The book was enjoyable, an interesting read, but average, not something I will read and re-read. And also one of the main characters was misnamed twice in one scene which the proofreader or editor should have fixed. Obvious mistakes like this should not get through to the final copy of the book.

This is an objective review and not an endorsement of this book.
